@RobertBobert Yeah you might be right.

@Limonene I think it’s too late to talk about this since about 2014. Even without the war, we were guaranteed to have drama with this among the politically active folks in Eastern Europe. I’ll just remind you of the drama the sketches with Ukraine and Belarus in Hetalia caused back in the day. By the way, does anyone else remember this show?

@RobertBobert Yes, of course, the Japanese do not really care for what is happening in Europe and I don't blame them for it because it has nothing to do with their lives. I just thought that Russian-themed anime might have been a bit popular in post-Soviet countries if not the current political situation.

@Limonene I don’t think you will really argue that Russians and Russia are, to put it mildly, not very popular in Poland, lol. But if we abstract from Russian-Polish relations, then I don’t think that it will be so hot in Japan. Maybe some Americans will try to cancel anime on Twitter or ANN and anime feminists will whine about it the same way they whined about Shield Hero ignoring MeToo, I don't know. But the Japanese usually don't care much about such things unless it directly concerns them. For example, some Russian bloggers interviewed Japanese friends and it was basically “they said on TV that Putin has gone crazy, but that’s none of my business".

@RobertBobert Lmao what, you're jumping to conclusions really fast here. I never said I hated on Russian culture or anything, I just agreed now is not the best time for promoting it. I think the series won't reach the public as widely as it would have before the war. Am I in the wrong here?
Personally I do not think we should cancel everything that is Russian just because of this but many people think otherwise.

@MantasB Never in history is there a good time for polish bruv

@Adnash, yes, you are right, I hope so too!

@RobertBobert, thanks for explaining.

@Rhapsody- That's what I'm worried about. I was moderately positive when I heard about Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta. Good and fresh looking animation, rather alright concept... but dunno, it didn't click with me, and I noticed it rather fast. I wonder if this anime will feel any different.

If it is another one of the recent wave of "one trait rom-com" animes we've been getting in recent years like Suki na Ko ga Megane then I'll pass

While I'm not a fan of this genre, this series looks promising! It'll be fun to hear a Slavic language in an anime, with said language playing rather important role in this show's plot. I don't know if I will like this anime, since - like I said before - it's not my cup of tea, but who knows? It's worth of giving it a try.

Memore said:
yes, she likes Russia and also studied here in a university.
Oh, really? That sounds great. So the seiyuu that's gonna voice the main character speaking Russian from time to time had actual contact with Russian culture and language. Sounds very cool and promising. This anime will surely benefit from that.

Sep 24, 2023 10:22 PM by Adnash

@Memore Because you are talking to a politically active Polish user here. This reminds me of the recent Zom100 thread, where one dude complained about the appearance of a German character, because in his head "all Germans are Nazis."

Sep 24, 2023 9:39 PM by RobertBobert

@robotman12 It's all moe. Just not in such a distinctly moe-focused style.

Sep 24, 2023 9:37 PM by RobertBobert

@Kikugi It's not just a matter of language, but also the need to represent the desired type and characteristics of the character.

Pretty excited to watch this, I love the Light Novel and I just hope Doga Kobo can deliver.

Seems like Doga Kobo is doing more shows with cute or pretty girl characters in them but not moe stuff anymore which i don't mind.
