If you’re, like me, one of those people that couldn’t stand the anime because of its overuse of melodrama, constant yelling and obnoxious characters, there is still a chance you might like this iteration of the franchise.
The manga version of Love Live Sunshine goes back to simpler roots and it just makes everything better. Chika actually seems passionate about being an idol and her energy is communicative and this time feels like a great leader deserving of succeed honoka and it’s understandable why other talented girls would gravitate towards her. Another point I like about it is how the characters are not all introduced directly

but appear one by one, managing effectively to give them a lot of appeal and establish different traits quickly.
Masaru Oda also does a great job at making the characters cute and distinct as well as making them very expressive, he also has great control over his narrative flow, coupling quirky dialogues with a lot of silent panels conveying a wide range of emotion fitting the different situations they are confronted to.
The only downside is its short length, only 2 volumes were released at the moment I’m writing this (so 1 vol every 2 years) and only a small part of it has been translated which doesn’t allow yet to see all the characters introduced and to have real group interactions.
Admittedly, there are also better and funnier doujins available online but for what it is, the official manga can pride itself from not being a mediocre commercial byproduct of the Love Live! Franchise.
