Samurai manga filled with blood, dirt, and steel. Lots of violent sword fighting to be found, as well as concepts such as fighting spirit and bloodlust. They are set around the same time in historical Japan, and they feature dramatized versions of real historical figures. Because of all that and the fact that they have a similar sketch-like art style, I imagine that Ichigeki was inspired by Vagabond to some extent.

Takemitsu Zamurai is a beautiful story about a talented samurai. He is a friendly and strong person. The manga is light at time, has good action sequences and also doesn’t hesitate to show death. Also it has a unique art style. Artist- Matsumoto Taiyou. Ichigeki(one strike, one kill) is a manga where peasants are recruited to form a kill squad. While Sunabouzo is the anti-hero of the future, Ichigeki is the anti-hero of the Edo period. Both are well written, intriguing and funny as well.

If you can’t get enough of samurais after finishing Sengoku Youko, Ichigeki is a good place to continue. Even if the are pretty different, they both manage to stay clear of the samurai cliches and still retain a sense of genuine feeling of that period.

Ichigeki is the Vinland Saga of the Edo period, with mercenaries, sword fights and peasants, even though the MC of Ichigeki is more of and anti-hero than a hero like Askeladd.
