Set in ancient China, so they are both historical shoujos. Both have good looking male leads with long hair and the art styles are somewhat similar. The characters have to go through a lot of troubles during war but retain their honor and love.  

Ancient China is the setting for these. They have very strong female leads, in Spirit of the Ocean the girl is a pirate while in Shadow of Visions she is an artist engraver. Both of them are very much in love with a man who seems out of reach because of their stations in life and the war in their countries. In Spirit of the Ocean since she is a pirate, so she is considered a criminal, while in Shadow of Visions the male lead is condemned because his visionary ability is thought to bring people bad luck. Both stories can be seen as examples of Star-Crossed Lovers. They have a similar art style with good looking men with long hair and period costumes.  read more 

Historical romances in China, these both deal with strong women and rather cold men from complicated family situations, the art in both gives a similar feel and sets the historic romance tone.  

Both are about a protagonist that paints visions about the future.
