Imhotep is a legendary high priest who is gifted in magic like Fortuna. The story revolves over an incident that happened 3000 years ago, when Imhotep commits an unforgivable sin which breaks the door to hell, releasing "magai", foul beings who impersonate gods and create catastrophes to feed on the resulting destruction.  

Personified gods with a high schooler who meet the main weird-blue-eyed-guy and gets some sort of supernatural powers. Sad backstories and underlying plot.  

Like Im, Yu-Gi-Oh! focuses on a character from Ancient Egypt (known throughout the series as Yami Yugi or Pharaoh) who comes back to life and must prevent his past enemies from destroying the world. Both protagonists are high-ranking Ancient Egyptians (Im being a High Priest and Yami Yugi being a Pharaoh) and they live in modern day society after being brought back to life. Magicians and magic are also common themes in both mangas, dark magic especially linking to the protagonists. Both main characters are also misunderstood, being feared and viewed as evil by many when really they are both thoughtful heroes. In both mangas there are Ancient Egyptian items which are possessed by spirits, a golden box covered with hieroglyphics being the item used in both Im and Yu-Gi-Oh!. The spirits in both mangas are able to possess other people and change how they behave. # Finally there is the presence of the Egyptian Gods. While the main Gods are different in Im compared to Yu-Gi-Oh! (Anubis and Thoth in Im, Ra and Osiris in Yu-Gi-Oh!), there is still a notable presence in both series (for example, Anubis is a term used throughout Yu-Gi-Oh! for the names of villains or playable cards).  read more
