Named after Osamu Tezuka, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize (手塚治虫文化賞, Tezuka Osamu Bunkashō) is a yearly manga prize awarded to manga artists or their works that follow the Osamu Tezuka manga approach founded and sponsored by Asahi Shimbun. The prize has been awarded since 1997, in Tokyo, Japan. Most BL manga are very short and focus on the relationship of the main characters and one or a few problems that arise. This stack covers stories that are longer and where the focus is not so much on the typical relationship problems but also include non-relationship related plot. In some of these manga it's more BL subtext while the main focus is on something else. Boys Love/Yaoi/Shounen Ai that will make your head burst with just how weird, disturbing, or messed up they are. If psychological is your go-to or you liked "Killing Stalking" and "Caste Heaven" or any of Harada's works, then you might like this stack. The BL manga in here doesn't necessarily need to have any romance between the leads, so please take note of that. A list of the earliest manga series and one-shots with a focus on mlm relationships. 👨❤️👨 These series are often notable for the social and political factors that motivated a lot of these stories, and one of my goals in producing this list is exposing others to the world of different themes and ideas being explored in early series. While some of these approach mlm relationships from the perspective of second-wave feminists expressing their sexuality in a time where women being overtly sexual was looked down upon, a large amount of series listed do tackle issues faced by many gay and queer men throughout the world during the 80s and 90s, such as prostitution, drug abuse, homophobia, and the AIDS epidemic. Besides this, while many stories here have difficult subject matter, there is a lot of hope in these narratives and many examples of genuine queer romance sprouting from the developing genre. BL/Yaoi/Shounen Ai manga are fiction but some hit too close to home for how realistic the situation, environment, and/or characters they have. Because of this, they tend to be on the mature side and tackles the situations that people in same sex relationships experiences in real life. This stack is a collection of BL manga with a darker setting. It includes psychological themes, dark pasts, underground settings, prison locations, dark fantasy/magic, and other things. The focus is less on the most disturbing stories but more on the overall setting, though some stories here are more messed up than others. Content warning: Some of these manga contain triggering elements like r*pe, abuse, torture, violence, blood, etc. List of sleeves for "elitist". These manga have been considered as "deep" animations by various critics and analysts. △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ △ ▼ Manga that have shaped and influenced my becoming the person I am. Some I no longer agree with in their philosophy or ideas, but listing them here helps me to see where my head space was in my past and who I am now. Manga that features twisted characters with toxic behaviors. Some are serious psychological stories that dives deep into toxic behaviors in a way that isn’t glamorized, while others are edgy trash that are just fun to read if you’re in that mood. I’ll tag them as “serious” or “edgy” in the descriptions of each manga. Manga that I really like. These entries are generally josei and gekiga series that aim to accurately portray contemporary life. I'll update this occasionally, and I'm open to reccomendations. No entry should rely too much on genre tropes or be fantastical. This is for your friends who only know manga through anime or only relate it to shonen and H, it’s not necessarily directed at a “manga beginner” but for someone who wants to understand it better as a medium. More than 1 volume, well drawn, easy to follow yet interesting visual and narratively. Some of the best drawings in manga. Whether it is because of the level of detail or because of its creativity and uniqueness, these manga have beautiful artwork. This list only includes one manga per artist. The Year 24 Group (24-nen Gumi/Nijuuyonen Gumi, also called the Fabulous Year 24 Group/Hana no 24-nen Gumi or the Magnificent Forty-Niners), is a group of manga artists who rose to prominence in the early 1970s. They are credited with introducing complex themes such as psychology, sexuality, and politics into shoujo manga, which until that point was primarily simple stories for little girls written by men who would migrate to male demongraphics as they gained notability. |
