Both series adapts martial arts although they take place in different time periods/settings. In essence, the main male character gets involved with other characters that challenges their skills to the limits. Rivalries are established while grudges are also built. There is a decent amount of violence in both series to also illustrate the reality of martial arts. Just be aware that Yukikaze's story also deals with themes of revenge while Hinmaru-Zumou is more of a sports competition.
