Tragedy is a genre of drama based on human suffering and, mainly, the terrible or sorrowful events that befall a main character. In these manga, the Protagonist experiences trauma from war or apocalyptic-like scenarios. These deal with realistic portrayals of the mental and physical effects war has left many lives with as well as those whom are ripped from their lives and may never return again...

Stories that evoke strong emotions and convey one/multiple "moral of the story".

Range from light-hearted cheerful slice-of-life to dark psychological tragedy.

Some are highly philosophical and can shift your perception of life, happiness, morality, humanity, etc.

Every great couple has:
>Someone who is no longer (or has never been) human, who
>should also be a source of incredibly unsettling body horror and/or cool fight scenes
>and have larger-than-life consequences (or at the very least include some intense drama)

This is simply what an ideal relationship looks like. I don't make the rules.

Manga set in Hokkaido, in which the setting plays a big part.

Shin Takahashi is best known for his series Saikano; this manga greatly influenced me as a teenager and is a must read. His unique art sytle and story telling are amazing. Sadly I have not seen much of his work in english in a long time. I hope for some english releases of his other works in the future.

Stories featuring characters whose physical abilities are extended beyond normal human limitations by mechanical elements built into their body.

If the ratings on my profile tell you nothing else it should tell you this; I am very a harsh critic. My average for animé and manga are both in the 5's and, considering how many titles I've completed, will likely always be there. If I rate something a 6 or higher I really do think it's worthwhile. So everything in this stack is something I would recommend at least trying.

This stack is for all of the manga that made me or almost made me cry. Just because a series is listed here does not mean it was depressing. Some of these are mostly happy save for that one story or scene which made me well up. All manga in this stack are manga that I have finished and given a rating of 6 or above. This stack will be updated as I find new titles. Make sure you have lots of tissues.
