I've been asked pretty frequently to recommend something, so I've created this stack.
This is my personal opinion on what's "a hidden gem". I think some of these considered "mildly" popular? If you read a lot of manga, you probably know some of these. I hope you do, haha.

Everything here I've either read or reading atm. None of those have an anime adapatation (OVAs and live-actions don't count).

Ones that I think stand out among the rest and do something different. There are many supernatural mangas that I love, however, these are the ones that not only do I love, I consider them truly unique whether that be referring to the world setting, story concept, or characters.

The level of "darkness" for each series varies. But most of these are not your typical wholesome fantasy series.

Manga containing cute animals (and maybe some not-quite animals)! All manga are at least partly translated online/English licensed.

I'll add content warnings where I can, and if I miss any major ones please feel free to let me know! Some of these series are soft and fluffy, some get into darker subject matter. I'll try to keep things pretty spoiler free though!

Just manga that are creepy af. Good writing is optional. DECENT writing is optional. The spook is all that matters.

Can be creepy in terms of visuals, atmosphere/tension, or content matter (e.g. dystopian, psychological horror, etc)

Interesting and notable titles from Shueisha's seinen magazine line.

Manga featuring children with a seemingly innocent or light-hearted premise/start that isn't what it seems.

Slice of life manga involving things like death, suicide, murder, depression, anxiety, paranoia, racism, survival, dark secrets(ex.cloning), loss/decline in/of civilisation etc.

I've included the fable and Kizudarake no Jinsei which aren't labelled as slice of life but they lie somewhere between gritty crime drama and a slice of life story.
