Area no Kishi and Days are sports manga that tells the story of a young man who gets into soccer. Both series' main male protagonist starts out as rookies, a sharp contrast to another main male protagonist who is considered a prodigy. As the story progresses, we see the rookie develop their skills through experiences. There is also some romance subplot in both series as well and drama.

A manga focused on Cycling made by the same dude who made Days. If you want to check out a manga on competitive Cycling, I'd highly recommend you give this manga a shot.

Days and Eyeshield feature weak and meek main characters who are introduced to a sport they have no knowledge in (Days - soccer, Eyeshield - american football) and grow a passion for in for one reason or another. They both have strong supporting casts, but Eyeshield is more comedic in its characters and tone. If you like the team aspect of soccer and following the characters as they develop in Ao Ashi, Days should be the next manga to read.

In both series, the main protagonist becomes interested in a sport but starts off as an underdog. They work their way up and faces against skilled teams as they try to prove themselves. There's also similarity between the main protagonists especially in their personalities.

Days is basically like a football / soccer version of Beck. Very similar vibes. Even the characters bear similarities in looks and how they interract with the story. If you like stories where characters progress then both might be for you.
