Before we get started, I want to say one thing: if you have low self-esteem or are struggling with depression, social anxiety, or anything similar: this is the worst manga to take lessons from.
Horribly cliche. LOTS of wish fulfillment. The only thing new is that the MC is much more pathetic than usual. Kageno is bullied unrealistically, and can't stand up for herself. At ALL.
She needs the cliche "handsome popular guy" to help her out, and takes things the wrong way. (People who read chapter 8 know what I'm talking about.)
The love interest is so cliche and perfect, and of course he falls

This was really... unsatisfying.
Overall a pretty typical shoujo romance between a bishonen and a complete outsider, much like many other stories in that way (like Kimi ni Todoke for example). However, what makes this story so much worse than most others for me was the fact that the female lead basically did not change, at all. In her core, she is a likeable character, deeply caring about others and accepting basically any risk to help them. But at the same time, she has a self-esteem of absolute zero, to the point of that she constantly doubts her relationship and thus also the feelings her ... Feb 10, 2018
Bought 8 volumes.
Story: 7 Nothing special. You can almost tell where the stories will go 'cause, yeah, it's a pretty generic shoujo. Art: 7 Since I never really cared about art styles, for me the art is okay. But it may be kind of boring for people who expect to see something new & eye-catching. Character: 7 As you may have read from the synopsis, Our mc Kageno is dull, gloomy, and awkward. Reading it so far (vol 8), I can definitely see a change in her character at certain times. what caught my interest is that even until now, the mc never really changed her tacky appearance (usually after ... Before I review this, I assume you've read the other review with the score of 1 that says it's a terrible manga for anyone who has self-esteem/anxiety/etc issues. I will not disagree that the female MC Kageno often gets saved by male MC Mitsunaga in various instances- but I will have to disagree that all there is to his character is a knight in shining armour popular guy. I was pleasantly surprised, when I originally thought he was exactly that type of character but then I realized he was a mix between a tolerant and a no-nonsense guy when it came to dealing with people

Incredibly shallow story how an unpopular girl with no friends gets #1 Ikemen for no reason other than being a decent person.
The plot honestly just felt like the author made a checklist of Shoujo Ai tropes and went down the list checking them off as she wrote them into the story. In terms in characterization... well there is none. Kageno is an incredibly poor example of a heroine. She is weak in all respects, mentally and physically, and the story is kicked off by her simply existing. All of the problems she faces in the story are resolved by someone else. Thus she has no ... |
