"I'm sure you'll understand too, someday. The melancholy of winning. The pain of praise. The weight on your shoulders... the loneliness and agony. The time will come where your efforts will seem meaningless and your victories empty."
Like much of Taiyo Matsumoto's work, Ping Pong includes the same level of energy and surprising depth that outshines its basis to the point of sheer brilliance. Ping Pong, contrary to the title, is less a story about table tennis and more a story about the coming of age of two polar opposite individuals. The author uses ping pong as a medium to advance the story and to develop

Taiyou Matsumoto is somewhat of a hidden master of manga, most people don't know about him but those who do respect him a lot. Sadly until recently I was someone from the first group, but fortunately I have now converted to the second group. This guy is master of telling a story by very subtle means, conveying the tell with both his excellent and imaginative writing and unconventional and brilliant drawing.
Ping Pong is one of his most famous mangas and after you are few chapters within you begin to understand just why is this guys so special. This manga is a very simple tale of ... Jan 27, 2015
At first glance Ping Pong looks like your typical generic sports manga, albeit with a choice of sport relatively uncommon to be found in the medium. And yet, while it does have the usual ingredients (tournament, rivalry, dramatic matches, training sessions, etc.), Ping Pong is way more than its simple, literal, title suggested.
To start, there's nothing typical with Taiyou Matsumoto's art. His style is very distinctive and could initially be hard on the eyes, especially if you're used to pretty, conventional, manga artwork. Matsumoto's characters looked like little demons at times, especially when they're grinning, and in this series ... Nov 22, 2021
MAY HAVE SPOLIERS , BE AWARED !
Passion is something that can either change ur life for the great and good or lead u down into the destruction of life , a dead-end , a scary world that even worse than hell , a "homonuclus". Nuture vs nature , a debate which has been delivered throughout this manga , that in the end , there is still not a clear answer . But there is one thing u know , that is "hard-working" because , if u don't practice , u don't learn , ur talent , ur passion will just die... that is why in the ... May 21, 2019
As ping pong the animation is one of my favourite animes of all time
I get to read the manga instead of rewatch it for the fifth time xD But unfortunatly the manga was less quality than the anime The anime had it's character development better than how the manga show it . In the manga you will feel that everything is very fast and that make you unfeel the emotions of the characters I used to compare animes with their mangas but i couldn't find an adaption that is better than it's source before i read this manga The manga is good and all that but ... Ping Pong is a philosophical exploration of what motivates people to undertake, well, anything. Some do it to kill time, some for the camaraderie, some chase after an aesthetic ideal, and some do it because they cannot bear failure, and so on. It starts off brilliantly, laying out the characters that exemplify this or that facet of competition, what they look like if mapped onto a motivational spider chart, how they interact with each other, reconcile contradictions, and mature.
However, as competitors drop out of the race and we approach the final reckoning, the manga also gradually becomes a slide show of flashbacks, action shots, symbolism, ... Oct 28, 2020
Honestly what put me off first is the art like it isn't personally that great BUT I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN AND WHEN OPPONENTS WERE FACING OFF EACH OTHER, THE SCENES WERE LIT AF MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahem anyways I was very surprised that I thought this was a very moving manga since I'm not really a "Ping Pong " fan and the art was rather off (no offense to the artist). I really liked how we get to know each characters (Smile, Dragon, Peko, Granny, Wenga, and the old dude who I can't remember his name lol) like the character development in this was very good. I ... |
