Shounen manga are known to fall back on a handful of "traditional" shounen sub-categories: battles (whether they are historical, fantastical, gang fights, military, space wars, or collectible monsters who fight in the protagonist's stead), school comedies, male-centered (or pandering) fantasy adventures with either a powerful male protagonist or an eye-candy female protagonist, and of course the usual harems, yuri, and fanservice. Most of the popular anime series are written by male authors. One Piece, Naruto, AOT, Jujutsu Kaisen, all these notable manga’s are from male artists. And, there is no end to this list. But, what about anime by female manga artists? Manga that will break you. Sad comics with terrible endings have their own appeal, and fans adore them. This is the original The Knuckleheads' Hall of Fame. These are some sad and emotional manga that have moved me and was able to make me cry. Some of these manga might be completely bleak, some of them have an uplifting tone to them. Hopefully it can strike a chord with you as well. Coming-of-age refers to the process by which a child becomes an adult. These manga showcase characters who make the transition naturally, or are forced to grow due to outside pressures. Learning about one's self, about others, about the world, and what society requires from adults, are all common themes of coming-of-age works. |
