Preliminary Spoiler

While I consider Yume Nikki the game as one of my favorite video games ever, the manga is an atrocity. The way the characters are portrayed don't match the way they react within the game at all. The story of the manga seems to be completely out of place due to the genuinely dark nature of the game. The art is quite an eyesore, the characters have no mouths, Madotsuki always has her eyes closed in a very irritating way, and the surrealistic nature of the game is not captured at all in the manga. The art is so bad, that it is hard not ...

Preliminary (2/9 chp)
This would be so much better if there was no dialogue. The way Madotsuki looks is kind off, and wonky. The backgrounds however look alright, and a nice representation of the game, so that makes it worth at least skimming through.
The only way I got any enjoyment of this is just to ignore 100% of the text.

Ah, another manga adaptation from game..

As fan of RPGMaker game, i was excited to know that Yume Nikki has it own manga.. The story itself is about a girl who always dream about same things, and someday she decided to exploring her dream..

Story: 8 / 10

In-game, there has no actual plot, just explore her dream. But in manga adaptation, there has actual plot. I didn't expected that, but that is good things.. Although it has actual plot, i little bit disappointed that as story go on, because Yume Nikki lack exploring things..

Art: 7 / 10

In my opinion, the art style well fit together along the ...

So when reading many complaints people have against this manga, it's important to understand that all versions of Yume Nikki are different stories. The same dream worlds are contextualized completely differently between versions, resulting in very different subtext. Given both the games rely almost entirely on subtext to tell their stories, that alone should indicate that they are separate stories, even without them having wildly different endings.

More importantly than trying to convince you whether the manga is good or bad, I would like the take-away to be that it's not beholden to the original work other than its use of the basic setting and characters. ...

Mixed Feelings
It was 2014 when I got to know about indie games, "Anonymous people that make games that are not financed by any company" or more or less that way I understand the concept. Some time later, spending the internet of my cell phone for watching bored Tops, I found one that listed the indies games: And that's when I met Yume Nikki: "A hikikomori girl who travels to the world of dreams when she goes to sleep ". The curious thing is that his genre was "LSD" that, as far as I know, was an older videogame that I will not talk about because that ...

I didn't expect to enjoy this.

I was already aware of the negative press towards this manga, and decided to read it to see what it was truly like.

I love the original game. Yume Nikki is so visually stimulating. As an artist, I just find that alone to be incredibly intriguing. Besides that, I enjoy the simplicity of actual game play. Exploring the worlds behind each door without story constraints is a calming, but fun experience. I also enjoy that since Yume Nikki lacks a story, it leaves so much for interpretation.

Moving it into the medium of manga takes away all these parts of the "Yume ...
