On the outside, they are just comedic light novel series that revolves around typical high school plot and involve harem elements. However, both series do not just stop at playing ACG "memes", and sometimes do a realistic portrayal of a typical otaku's life. While their atmosphere is light-hearted, they sometimes ask more serious questions such as "how should an otaku connect with rest of the world?"  

While Saekano is a novel series and KamiNomi is a manga, both works are heavily involved with the concept of galgame, in some ways or other. In Saekano, MC and his friends formed a doujin group with the goal of making a legitimate visual novel that fans will enjoy. In KamiNomi, MC is tasked by a supernatural entity to capture the hearts of various girls just like in galgame. In both works, MCs are also avid gamers.
