I'm not one for cheery, highschool-themed anime/manga all the time, so sometimes I like to take a break and look for ones with a darker theme to it. R.I.P. is what I stumbled on.

Story: 7
The story is good, with a nice build up to the climax, and then a pretty satisfying end. I felt that the story was a little predictable, but this predictability was tolerable because of how short it was. If this manga had dragged on for 20 or more chapters, I would have probably not rated it so high. R.I.P. actually raises some interesting moral questions regarding suicide, and it manages to ... address them pretty well.

Art: 8
The art is pretty good, (although some of the character designs were a little off-putting to me), and the scenery is drawn well. The more dark or gloomy scenes are reflected well into the art, and the same goes for the more cheerful scenes (of which there wasn't too much of).

Character: 6
Don't get me wrong, I loved the characters, but it got confusing after a while. At first there were the two mains, but then more and more people got added into the mix, and their precise relationship with the main characters wasn't ever fully addressed. The character development was okay, for a short-er manga, but I was still left craving for more. The personalities of the characters were pretty unique, but the general ambiguity as to what exactly was going on and who exactly were the other characters gave you questions that went, sadly, unanswered.

Overall Enjoyment: 9
Yeah, this manga wasn't perfect, not in the least. However, the gloomy theme and interesting look on death and suicide made this manga very enjoyable to me. I don't know if I'm just a dark and emo person or what, but there was just something about this manga that made it so.... memorable.

Even if darker themes in anime aren't your thing, I still highly recommend it. This was a pretty interesting and unique read, and I really hope that R.I.P. might possible get a sequel someday...? Maybe? No? Or maybe there's already a sequel and I'm just dumb for not checking. ^^
