::STORY::
Nishiki-kun no Nasu ga mama is the standard "sadistic boy harrases the sweet girl he loves" story every shoujo reader has read more than once.
The main character Chi has spent her childhood catering to every whim of her father's boss's spoiled son. Of course, to keep her dad's job in good standing, she was encouraged not to upset the snake-eyed boy, Ikumi, or bad news for papa. Who would have thought the overindulged boy would get attached to her? Obviously, we all guessed it even if our heroine was too blind to see it. servant and master to a couple.
Anyway, it was an alright short read. The wedding was the highlight of hilarity to me, and it was the single part I reread.
::CHARACTERS::
In all honesty, Ikumi had no redeeming value. He had a few shoehorned in nice moments but nothing of substance. He ticked me off with his pure laziness and possessiveness. Sometimes, he treated Chi more like a maid than his lover. I know, I know the humor of the manga stems from his pompous view, but it still irks me. SN: Since when is licking tears sexy?
Chi is that type of chick tsundere/sadistic boys walk all over. It's a defining trope of shoujo, but I'm not too fond of chicks who don't know what love is. You don't have to have experienced it, but please stop asking 'why does my heart thump like this?'
::ROMANCE::
First, I have to give Nishiki-kun no Nasu ga mama thanks for no serious love rivals! It's refreshing to see the main boy and girl like each other without hardships, which you might contribute to its short length. The love confession and that wedding scene were great moments, but everything else sort of annoyed me by how Ikumi bossed Chi around.
::ART::
I definitely adored the art in this manga. What it lacked in plot, it made up in the artwork. The characters looked so cute especially the young kids. I found the mini snake and mice as caricatures of the title couple pretty fitting. If you ever wanted to see a snake in a frilly maid outfit your wish has been granted.
::OVERALL::
Nisiki-kun doesn't break the shoujo mold at all but still manages to be entertaining.
