Series that are heavily overlooked on MAL (at the time of writing, under 2k members). Most, if not all of them are also underrated. Will likely add series in the future as I read them.

New Wave (ニューウェーブ, Nyū uēbu) was a movement within the Japanese manga industry during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Critics together with artists challenged the by then conventional frameworks of shōnen manga, shōjo manga and gekiga by introducing innovative means of expression and non-gendered approaches to manga. While artists differed vastly in terms of style, the visual language of Katsuhiro Otomo, new approaches to science fiction, the emergence of Boys' Love manga and a less feminine approach to to shōjo manga were some of New Wave's characteristics. The short-lived movement was centered around smaller manga magazines that were initiated by manga critics, but had a wide impact onto the development of mainstream manga.

These manga are concerned with the study of human societies and cultures and their development. Many of them specifically focus on Japanese origin myths and Izumo.

There is so little Jump manga from the 70's that are fully translated into English's, but these are the one's that I was able to find.

If you find any that I missed please tell me.

[Note: Cobra still has a volume that's not translated, but I'm including it here because the last time it was updated was a month ago, so the last volume will probably be translated in the near future]

Here is the Jump Manga from all the other decades:

Horror manga with some combination of ancient religious beliefs versus the modern era, terror lurking in the country, fear of the spirits and gods, and often dangerous encounters between the outsiders and the isolated village. Due to the genre often being associated with Western horror, entries may not have all of these elements but will have most of them.

The genre is not to be confused with supernatural horror and is not wholly identical to "horror (usually supernatural) that is set in the countryside." However, the genre is fuzzy, so my interpretation may not wholly align with what someone else calls Folk Horror.
