The Manga Taisho (マンガ大賞) is an annual Japanese manga award. The award is limited to series with eight or fewer collected volumes, in order to promote newer titles. The nominating committee, composed of staff members from bookstores, each initially vote for five series and the titles with the top ten number of votes become the official nominees of the year. Finally a second round of voting determines the winner, as well as second and third place.

The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition.

Critics & Connoisseurs was a club that was founded in 2008 and ended club activities on the 31st of 2022.

The goal of the club was to come up with a list of highly recommended quality shows and manga that are exemplary either within its genre or universally. A manga needed a 70% approval rate in our voting to get on the relation list. The following manga are all part of said list.
Do note that our club's main focus always was anime, our club's readership was relatively low which results in a lot of manga not being able to reach enough votes to get on the relation list despite having a 70% or higher approval rate.

A collection of manga about manga artists

Manga that capture genuine stories or experiences of real people. Fictional biographies such as Tezuka's Buddha are not within the scope of this list.

(List is currently very lacking.)

Of course, this list is subjective, but these are mangas that really stood out to me due to refreshing story elements, subject matter, or unique characters. I'm not asking for reccomendations.

I've been asked pretty frequently to recommend something, so I've created this stack.
This is my personal opinion on what's "a hidden gem". I think some of these considered "mildly" popular? If you read a lot of manga, you probably know some of these. I hope you do, haha.

Everything here I've either read or reading atm. None of those have an anime adapatation (OVAs and live-actions don't count).

Must Haves:
1. Strong-- meaning badass, witty, professional, etc.
2. Loving-- having a kind, funny, inspirational, or complex personality. Not just a generic strong superwoman.
3. Female-- objectively female in the universe of the manga.
4. Lead-- being the center character of the manga or sharing the same amount of screen time as a male lead.
5. Be good

Titles focused on painters, paintings, illustration, illustrators, and various types of drawings from various types of artists.

So just so we're on the same page, I only add stuff here I actually read and enjoyed, otherwise the list would be muuuuch longer)

My lowest score is around 6, most highest rated are in my top-10.

As the title says, sometimes the story behind the making of a manga can be more exciting than the manga itself. The manga in this article show us what is going on in the creator’s head when they make these stories for us.

These are some sad and emotional manga that have moved me and was able to make me cry. Some of these manga might be completely bleak, some of them have an uplifting tone to them. Hopefully it can strike a chord with you as well.

I will mark the ones I personally highly loved and recommend if you want a good cry with a “🖤”.
