Feng Shen Ji II Review
*I strongly recommend reading review this once you have completed the entire FSJ2, because not only does it contain minor spoilers but it'll be that much more easier for you to understand where I'm coming from when I state my points.*
Story (10/10) Masterpiece
This story is the second part of the prequel Feng Shen Ji 1, I adored the first Feng Shen Ji because it's brought me a story of a character that I started off hating into someone who has become one of my favorite fictional characters of all time but I'll save character talk for the character section this
...
section is for story. The story since the beginning of Feng Shen Ji 1 had been set in stone from the get go and this should be a spoiler since if you are reading this I'm assuming you have finished Feng Shen Ji 1 and this is a review of FSJ2 in it's entirety. The end game goal in a nutshell is to overthrow the Gods this is what Wu Geng's father is attempting to do since chapter 1 of FSJ1. Now you would think as far as a story goes you know exactly how this would play out and mostly you could from a story stand point it's not that unpredictable it's the execution of how everything took place in these 64 chapters I felt was the best thing it had going for it. And one could say that it should have ended with FSJ2 because the main plot like i stated before was set in stone since chapter of FSJ1. If anything was unpredictable it's how the final battle between Tian and Wu Geng went down as one would think that Wu Geng would be the one to end Tian but he's not which definitely threw me for a loop because if there's anything this manhua has drill into (at least) my head was that Wu Geng is destined and Tian will be overthrown by him. And by them saying this even though I know this was going to happen even if it wasn't said because he's the main character having the Manhua tell me he's destined to do it made me feel like I've been spoiled to know that the protagonist will do it (it that makes any sense) another example is the fact that we all know that Wu Geng is destined to get his hands on the Phoenix it was things like this that made me feel uneasy when it came to the spoilers of Destiny. But like i said earlier execution to why at the end of the day it didn't bother me even if I know it's going to happen, kind of like watching a anime that you've already read the manga to, you know what's going to happen but the execution of how it plays how is what you are here for and I personally think it did it perfectly I honestly have no complaints but if I did I'm glad FSJ3 exist because they would most likely be solved there.
Art (10/10) Masterpiece
Really people.. REALLY... come on... you have to be absolutely in denial and have something against the creators to not think this is one of the best things drawing you've every fucking seen. They went BEYOND what you should expect, the art is the main thing that draw me and a lot other people to this series in the first place. Now like I said it's ONE of the best not THE best, but that's only because as far as consistency in the art-style in this manhua it's not there. And that's my only complaint about it the but it wasn't enough for me to take away it's 10. For amount of content behind this manhua and being in full color it would be selfish of anyone (at least in my opinon) to not give this the highest of praise other manhua, manwha and manga should get on this level. (The only thing I've see that rivals this is a manhua called City of Darkness and as far as consistency they might be considered higher than this but we aren't here to talk about that but you should check that one out also if you love the art of FSJ as much as I did). But back to FSJ I could not stop taking screenshots of how gorgeous the areas, characters, moves, and fight scenes looks when it was time to look detail I can't think of anything that could top this.
Character (10/10) Masterpiece
At first I was thinking about giving this a 9 but then I remembered of one certain character that as far as characterization is concern made FSJ2 for me and his name is NiTian ErXing. He was vaguely introduced at the end of FSJ1 and we didn't know much about him. But the author sure as hell made him the 2nd most important person in FSJ2 in my opinion. Firstly his design is bad ass, secondly we get one hell of a backstory on his showing his struggles, his ignorance, his uprisings and most importantly his development into the character that leads the protagonist and the Dark Ones to basically victory even if he couldn't live long enough to see it. I had no clue I would love this character this much he's a masterpiece. Wu Geng our MC also gets even more character development in FSJ2 (not as much as in FSJ1 but enough to be satisfied) and the thing that I like that they did for him is to continue to show that even though he's way stronger than what he was in FSJ1 he is still an opportunist at heart and will take any chance to strategize the situation to his needs. Those last few chapters had me worried though! I thought that was true character regression but to find out it was the absorption of the Dark One's energy that cause him to acted out like that put my soul at ease I would have hated to see someone I was considering to be one of my favorite characters in all of fiction to drop that low the author had me going for a minute there! (you ass! lol) anyway, last character I want to talk about his none of the Uncle Zi Yu himself, as his fight against Zhen Chan was not only bad ass but it shows us his inner desires over his brother that he's overthrows and knows isn't the right thing, I personally thought as a character to put his desires behind him to be a better person makes him truly admirable gets my credit and not only that but at the end of FSJ2 when he helps Wu Geng get back his true self make him even more of a great character you could hope for. So there after everything I've said there's no way I personally could give this anything lower than a 10 I'm sorry I've said what I've said and I think it's reasonable.
Enjoyment (10/10) Outstanding
No other manga, manhua or manga can keep me this engrossed. Usually when I read manga I'm in a skype call, in a chat or reading it on my phone one the go. But not this one I have to be in my room with the most hype music playing in the background with my full attention on the manhua any other way I feel you are doing yourself an injustice (BTW I used Dynasty Warriors OSTs to listen to it was fucking great). Back to enjoyment though, I came in here know what genre I was getting myself into, the main genre this is, is a the battle genre and when taking that into consideration the amount of match ups FSJ2 had were amazing so remember-able. Zhen Chang vs Zi Yu, Xuan Feng vs Shi Xing, Tian Wu vs NiTian ErrXing, Li Jin vs Wu Geng and everyone vs Tian (lol). All of thos fights made these 64 chapters of FSJ2 such a blast I have no clue what FSJ3 can do to top it but I said the same thing after finishing FSJ1 going into FSJ2 lol. But even past the fighting the dialogue I felt was also enjoyable also like I said earlier the backstory of NiTian ErXing had barely any fighting (they even skipped fight scenes that I wanted to see when he was unifying the Dark Ones) and with those fight scenes missing I'm still able to get enjoyment out of it that should say something from a "battle manhua" it has enjoyable scenes in damn near every section so to say "oh it's all about the fights in this manhua" I beg to differ.
Overall (10/10) Masterpiece
Man calling this manhua a masterpiece is an understatement to me, every time I sat down and read it, it far exceeded my expectations. Feng Shen Ji 2 is so good words can describe how satisfied I am with these 64 chapters. Now I do have one and ONLY 1 gripe about Feng Shen Ji as a whole and it has been bothering me since FSJ1 and it didn't take points off of FSJ1 because FSJ2 exist and I'll do the same since FSJ3 exist. So I'll hold my tongue when it comes to that as it's only something I want to see take place, but as far as everything that DID take place I couldn't have asked for a better way it all played out. Sure one could say that the way Tian went out could be looked at as a little anti-climatic but that wasn't enough for me to write it down as a major complaint to me. So yeah overall Outstanding I can't wait to start on the last part in this epic trilogy of a Manhua that is FENG SHEN JI!
