Interest Stacks

Mangaby MyAnimeList

Manga collected in this stack have stories which focus on the struggles of maintaining, repairing, or building family bonds. These relationships should be between the main characters and must be non-romantic in nature.

Series which focus primarily on taking care of infants to pre-teen children will not be included in this stack; please use the Childcare theme to find these stories. However, if the childcare component is only one relationship of multiple in the family, then these manga will also be added here.

A not-perfectly-exhaustive list of manga and light novel series left incomplete or discontinued due to death of the/a creator.

Thank you to all the creators who have spent their days bringing us joy and happiness with their lives' work.

(Ignore my ratings, you should dictate the enjoyment yourself)

What definitely makes manga great would be that it goes over a broad range of themes/topics. Manga isn't afraid of addressing taboo topics, nor does it avoid concepts that most other entertainment mediums WOULDN'T DARE to touch. They also provide an imaginative exploration of how the Japanese perceive these topics. We rarely get cultural perspectives on certain topics.
-
Includes topics that are rare in animanga compared to other mediums.

These are all Joesei manga that I’ve found interesting! It’s all manga, there aren’t any manhua or manhwa in here at all. Remember, Josei is a demographic so while there are a lot of heterosexual romance manga in here there’s also Boy’s Love, mystery, action, thriller, isekai, and etc. I hope you find a new manga to enjoy!

manga exploring issues or topics that aren't discussed often enough.

'taboo' topics = actual taboo topics + subjects that aren't really talked about

Manga where a main or otherwise central character has a disability. I've tried to be inclusive of different types of disabilities as I come across them and hope to update this list over time as I discover more.

Please be aware these are not necessarily own voices stories! I hope to only include positive rep in this list, but I’m still going through all the titles and am also always learning. <3

Many of these also have good anime adaptations!
All are wholesome and sweet, some will make you cry as well!
No creepy manga here (looking at you Usagi Drop…. Hell no.)

The characters listed in this aren't necessarily confirmed to be autistic but can be very autistic coded

I'm not a psychologist so I am not able to give characters an accurate diagnosis so these are all just coming from my own experience as an autistic person

Feel free to recommend series with possibly autistic characters!

Here are all the josei manga I think one should read in order to cover all bases. I organized this list by general theme, with publishing series at the bottom.

We start off with the classic slice of life and coming of age stories, then to a couple of autobiographical manga, then to the dark and realistic drama stories, then to action and horror stories, then to mystery stories, then to the rom-coms, then to the more light-hearted slice of life stories, and lastly to the important ongoing series.

I'm currently using this list too, despite me being the one who created it!

Manga/Manhwa/Manhua with main characters that either have autism or are characters that could be autistic. Autistic coded characters that aren’t specifically expressed as autistic in the series count as well. Obviously, there are manga that don’t go in depth about autism as that’s extremely rare in manga and anime however I chose stories where I think it’s clear that the characters are on the spectrum, or could be. Every autistic character is different, in no way are any of these stories a clear cut example of every autistic person and if there is bad behavior, I’m not excusing it because they are autistic. There are all types of people, including autistic people, and this list is just stating whether or not they fit the diagnosis in my head. (Currently updating descriptions and explanations)

Manga imo that has an optimistic, feel good vibe. Probably a lot of slice of life vibes. Feels genuine and kind to its characters. explores different types of people and is empathetic.

In my heart, I'd like to include Vinland Saga, but it struggles a bit. include that if you want since the author tries, but be warned (though, that's the same with mob psycho 100 having the occasional offensive gag).
