I can't believe how good the prison food in Japan seems! Why didn't Kaiji just go to trial and take a sentence for his debts?!

Autobiographical mangas are a pretty rare breed. Since the editors have a clear understanding of what sells very few authors have the chance to just rant about things that happened in their lives. This manga isn't exiting or tear jerking or funny. It's just a reflection of life in a very specific circumstance and it's great at it. Art is pretty good, even though some people look weirdly short it's just the Artist's style or his choice characterize himself and others and hella short.

Love the theme of incarceration and life in prison itself, but damn did nothing happen in this manga. I know its a Biographical manga, but this manga is basically 30% mundane life in prison 5% struggles the inmates would have in prison, 65% YUMMY YUMMY JAPANESE PRISON FOOD IS SO YUMMY. He wouldn't stop talking about the damn prison food. Looked more like a cook book then an acutal life in prison story.

Art: 6/10
Story: 2/10

Overall: Learned a lot ...

It really blow your mind to see this in a manga, and better, by the perspective of the one who actually did it. The art is great and makes you immerse into how Kazuichi is feeling there. There's also a handful of ...
