Both are supernatural horror series based in a small, somewhat isolated town with an unusual and dangerous secret. Incidentally, both series are based on novels, and the original authors are married; though these series approach fairly different subjects, the similarities in their styles and tastes are clear.

Although not the same, there are striking structural similarities. Mirai Nikki has a protagonist who recieves an empowering item that puts him at great risk and requires him to forge alliances and take arms against others within a similarly affected group, with his survival primarily dependent on knowing who to trust and when to trust them. Shiki is about a group of protagonists, some of whom become supernaturally afflicted, whose survival is dependent on knowing who to trust as the death toll climbs. Not the same, but similar.

In both works, the aim is to find out what kind of creatures(vampires) live in a particular place.

Summertime Render has the same small village type atmosphere that Shiki has. Odd things keep happening, quite literally, in the shadows. People get replaced with a superior version of themselves and the main protags need to fight off the intruders. It's similar in the aspect that the reader has the awesome foresight to know what's happening already while the actual characters gradually put the pieces together as the chapters continue on.

Both take place in a small town with a main character who hates the gossiping townsfolk getting into his business and wants to go to the city. Mysterious beings unable to enter the holy ground are violently attacking the village, with the main character as a target. They both have a main character who has an airhead blond buddy who dies and comes back as a monster.

In both series death is taking place left and right. In one, the deaths are thought to be natural or maybe some kind of illness. In the other, they are all thought to be suicides. both are interesting and unique and have horror =D

While Trinity Blood focus on Action, comedy and Sci-fi , Shiki focus on mystery, horror and psychological plot. Both are about Vampires and a war between Humans and Vampires.

In both manga, there are people that aren't allowed to exist because they may be a threat to the others. It is discussed the moral problem of killing a murderer and there are also twists and smart moves. There are complex characters, well psychological analyzed and some of them show their madness and obsessions. While Shiki is a supranatural and horror manga, Spiral is a mystery manga and it also has a more optimistic atmosphere and less gore. However, both express deep feelings and they manage to shock the readers.

Both are horror series that centre around a series of strange phenomena threatening the residents of a small town mostly cut off from the outside world.

Vampiresque creatures that feed on humans in both stories. Both creatures have feelings, and humans are sometimes even worse monsters than Ghouls/Shiki. There are moral dilemmas in both stories.
