I'd like to start off by saying that I'm not an expert nor a fan of asian horror. Why?, well I'm not too sure myself to be honest, I haven't seen that many asian horror movies so perhaps the bizarre style of this manga feels too foreing to me because of that. While I acknowledge that, I do love horror as a genre in many forms of media such as books, movies, video games, etc. Take my review for what is worth with that in mind.

Introduction:
What makes a good horror story?, Is it the hopelessness we like to see portrayed by the characters in the ...

Anamorphosis no Meijuu is an ero-guro horror manga by Shintaro Kago. The first half of this features a sick, twisted horror-detective game that leads the reader guessing many things about the story. The second half is made up of one-shots of different horror genres.

The first story was actually pretty thrilling. Unfortunately, I've gotten quite used to guro manga portraying something as one way when it was completely the over - the manga that taught me this was actually Fraction by Kago himself. I was a little disappointed that, although I didn't know what was going ...

I found this story on an article, talking about highly recommended horror stories. This story contains a short horror mystery and a few chapters of very short weird horror stories. I don't have much to say about this. The main story is decent, I didn't get much enjoyment from it and it ends abruptly. The other stories were just plain odd, but the last 3 or so were comically pleasing. Many of the stories contain sexually obscure imagery and weird storytelling. I hoped the story would be similar to Junji Ito's works, however i was let down with the very shallow horror. I would only ...

The short stories that are included in this present some of the most depraved, fucked up situations to the reader, but are actually played for laughs, in turn creating some the darkest humor I've came across in some time, and I kinda love it. I've read only the first volume of Dementia 21, so that's all of Kago's work I've been exposed to up until now, and these shorts came out of left field for me, and in the best way possible.

They hit even stranger, because 3/4s of this collection is dedicated to the title story, Anamorphosis, which gave me all the vibes I expected ...

The main story is one of Shintaro's best in my opinion.
If you are intrested in surealism, mind fucks or shintaro's work in general this is a must read.
The other short stories vary in quality, but are welcome!

*spoilers ahead*
I just wanted to express how insane it is, not only to conceive a story like this, that basically for the characters takes place in dimentions beyond their comprehensions and then for us the readers is just a smart perspective trick, very fittingly thematically tied with the art of practical visual effects, but drawing it and having it make sense for the reader while telling a compeling story ...
