Satsuma Gishiden and Path of the Assassin are Gekiga (historical manga) that describe the "spirit" of medieval Japan. Satsuma Gishiden is focused on the Samurai code of conduct/honor, while Path of the Assassin investigates the life and way of thinking of Suppa (ninja). They have a similar way of putting the emphasis on the emotions of the warriors and warlords. They also describe in detail the power struggle and the allegiance relationships between japanese feudal lords, samurai, warriors, commoners.
