Let me preface this by saying that I initially had fun with the first couple of volumes of Georgie. I thought the premise was interesting and I love some drama, so it allowed me to overlook some of the glaring issues in the beginning. However, the ending ruined whatever goodwill I had left for the series. My 2 stars are purely for the gorgeous art at this point.
From the very first few chapters you will notice very bad pacing issues that continue throughout. The reader is constantly bombarded with characters falling in and out of love at the drop of a hat, psychos trying to
...
murder others for basically nothing, and the absolute worst decision making I have ever seen. Nothing that happens makes much sense. Like I said, I was initially willing to overlook all of that for some fun, but here's the kicker, this story is not fun. At all.
It's not long before the silly antics turn to dreariness and misery. We spend far too much time on watching every character we care about (or are supposed to) suffer in either physical or mental ways. And to top it all off, there isn't even a happy ending. I cannot stress enough how awful this ended up being.
My kudos goes to Yumiko Igarashi once again. Her art truly was a dream to look at. Her characters were so pretty, with backgrounds that looked almost photo realistic at times. I will definitely read other things that she has worked on, like maybe Candy Candy, since I know that the writer is different.
