The main characters are trying to catch corrupted souls. Kami nomi is more about romance and more developed in the storyline, and Black Rock Shooter is more mysterious. 

In a world after death, where the souls that had a life seek to satisfy their desires, in search of happiness. Throughout the works you can see how the feelings are mixed with each person, showing how pain can be saved, as well as knowing in reality what hides this world that makes the souls stagnating in the world disappear. 

They deal with souls and their purification after death. There are a organization that deals with the souls, and they form a team of a human and a living weapon. 

A similar level of dramatism and desperation. Main characters, Rock and Shinji are pretty similar and have very deep internal monologues about live and death. 

A group of people killing and purifying corrupted souls. Characters have a deep relation with their weapon, who have different transformations. 

Fighter girls with weapons. They have to defeat supernatural beings, youmas for Claymore and corrupted souls for Black Rock Shooter, in order to protect the world. But if the girls surpass their limit they turn into one of those beings, becoming stronger than any other. 

Both kind of fit the theme of "Darker magical girls"(Madoka is darker in storyline, Black Rock Shooter is darker in character design)
