Sadly, I've only found 37 chapters online & very little of the anime, however the story itself is on par with Ashita No Joe.

The story begins with a 5 year old boy named Genki who aspires to become a boxer like his father, thus they both journey across the land while training. Eventually, both father & son achieve a stroke of luck to officially start their boxing careers. In the case of Genki's dad, he's come back from retirement & drops to weight classes leading to the most significant match of his life. The manag also explores into his father's past & the difficulty of ... raising a family along with teaching his son the basics of life & the honor that comes through boxing.

Ganbare Genki heavily expresses the father & son bond at it's best, however like Ashita No Joe tragedy strikes this family leading to the heart of the story taking place years later. The rest of the manga focuses on Genki getting older from elementary to middle school & even further while fulfilling his father's goal of becoming a world champion.

You should be hooked to the series by 8 chapters & understand the pain Genki feels as he matures & improves his boxing skills. Genki explores a family's struggle while keeping a promise that seems out of his reach. Genki as a character is a determined young man with a good heart who wishes nothing more than to make his pops proud. Several other characters play a part in this story such as Genki's teacher, boxing coach, & even develops a love interest who all serve to help Genki in his path as boxer. While his grandparents oppose his future career as a boxer, Genki internal conflict comes from family expectations & his own selfishness.

From the 37 chapters I was able to read, this is a good story & makes me curious how Genki will be once he reaches adulthood as the struggles keep piling up, but Horiguchi Genki will forever be determined to fulfill his promise to his loving father.

Can't believe there is no review for this and there are only few people who have read Ganbare Genki maybe it's because only 20 chapters are out.

Story8/10 ... The story I think is good. It is about a 5 year old kid who's mum is dead and he believes his father is the best boxer in the world and that he will become world champion. After travelling with his dad to a boxing tournament his dad dies after a fight. He is then brought up with his grandparents who don't want him to box but he has secret training because he want to become world champion from the 20 chapters that are out it looks like a good story.

Art7/10 some people might not like that art or may think it should be rated lower the art isn't great but it's not bad either and if you look at the time this manga was made it won't have the kind of art you would expect from today's manga. I personally kind of like the art and think it portrays the story well and fits in nicely with everything and give that kina older manga feel.

Character 8/10
I like the Characters and think they are well done, the main Character is likable and I enjoy reading about him. Not much to say so far I mean the first 20 chapters don't really have main side Characters they are just introducing one and there are a few but there isn't much history on them but there are a lot of chapters that are not translated so I can't really judge.

Enjoyment 9/10
I really enjoyed this manga and thought it was great it's fun and starts with him as a kid so you know you will slowly see his growth over time and see how the story develops after reading the first 20 chapters it left me wanting to read more.

some people might be wondering why I gave it a 9 out of 10 not a 8 that is mainly because I believe it is better than a lot of the mangers I have gave a 8 out of 10 for I really liked this series and hope more come out soon I would recommend this for anyone looking for a sports or fighting manga to read or just looking for something to read this is for you but remember it's a long manga and only has 20 chapters that are out so it could take awhile to be finished and it could even be dropped in the future though I hope it won't be.
