Mao Marimo does a few things different in comparison to your average gender bender manga. Unfortunately, this does not save it from being entirely mediocre.
The Good: Instead of the series being a comedy about our main character Mao failing to adjust to femininity, she takes to it right away and decides that she is fine with being a girl if that is what fate has in store for her. Albeit being kinda short, it is really a very well told heartwarming story.
Mao not only is a charming character, but also one you end up being fond of. During the 35 chapters of this sweet story ( pun intended, you will know why if you read this manga ) we are lead through the whole range of emotions Mao can express and deliver in her quest to find herself and accomplish her dreams. The art is not particularly top notch but gets the job done. The best aspect of this manga is probably the character development, particularly, the main three characters finding themselves after Mao's gender bend ... |
