It surprised me when I learned that the novel Basilisk adapted, 'The Kouga Ninja Scrolls', came out in 1959--many decades before Battle Royale. The idea of forcing people to kill each other until there is only one/a few left is a simple one, but the way human nature is depicted with the violence, rape and whatnot that follows in this two is very striking. Survival series without morality bullshit is the way I would describe them. Basilisk is a ninja warfare period piece. Battle Royale is set in a modern day, alternate history Japan and involves high school kids killing each other. But the insanity  read more

Yagyu was created by the same artist/author as Basilisk. The art, as well as the execution, is very similar. You could actually describe Yagyu as a sequel--its story occurring not too long after Basilisk's end. Where as Basilisk involved two ninja clans with a lot of hatred for the other being forced into a 10 vs. 10 battle to the death, Yagyu has a war of the sexes theme. At the start, seven of Aizu's strongest warriors - warriors working for the evil lord Akinari - are forcing a rebel Aizu faction to walk many miles to their execution ground; tied up and dragged by dogs.  read more

It shows detailed and often historically accurate depictions of ninja clans and of their relationships with the Shogunate ( Bakufu ). Plus shinobi on shinobi action. However, I'd say Basilisk is easier to delve into but Shinobi no kuni is more rewarding and feels more original to Japanese values such as the loyalty, sacrifice. It's more adult and made me cry in the end, no easy feat for a manga.

Although Basilisk is based around ninjutsu techniques, and Jujutsu Kaisen around cursed techniques, the characters utilizing said techniques get extremely creative with how they can come through. Very imaginative and gorey from both sides. Two of the characters from both Basilisk and Jujutsu have also very similar techniques and character creation. In both stories there are also clans/houses that have specific bloodline.

Ninjas fighting ninjas for the sake of the clan! Plenty of flashy, unique, interesting and deadly techniques on both titles with plenty of sexy under-dressed kunoichis

REAL NINJAS kill people and do stealth. ...okay, no! Definately not an insult. NARUTO actually inspired me to look for Basilisk, when I wanted to look for an impressive "historical drama" work centered around ninja. Basilisk is more for mature readers. The ninja here also have interesting inborn abilities.

1. Both are set in the Samurai era Japan and involves plenty of death at the hands of either ninjas or samurai. 2. Both title also has a fair amount of adult scenes. 3. Both have very detailed art, the attention to detail is very impressive indeed 4. Both have very good fight scenes

Both Manga have Violence and Nudity, although the setting is very different (Ninjas X Aliens) both have the same dark atmosphere surrounding them, from the unwillingness of the main character to fight, the relationship of the characters they are both pretty similiar
