In "Seelöwe", the American submarine Sealion accidentally enters German-controlled waters, at a time when the United States was still neutral, and stumbles upon a German invasion force starting Operation Seelöwe or Sealion—Hitler's plan to invade Britain. In "Temple of El Alamein", a German tank officer is waiting for his Tiger tank to be repaired during the Germans retreat prior to the Second Battle of Alamein. He finds the ruins of an Egyptian temple, filled with the mummies of cats, crocodiles, and all the ancient Egyptians' other sacred beasts. Just as enemy tanks close in, he discovers something truly unexpected. "Where Eagles Dare" imagines what might have happened if some of the most advanced aircraft on each side had met in aerial combat. A Me-262 jet fighter runs into a B-47 bomber at 40,000 feet, as Germany is ravaged by Allied bombing raids late in the war.¶ "Ardennes Forest" is about the dark secrets of the Ardennes Forest and its ancient history, told from the point of view of an American veteran looking back at the days when he was caught up in Germany's last desperate offensive. In the two chapters of "National Shame Manga", Hoshino parodies both the revisionist and pacifist views of Japan and America's World War II and post-war history with a tragicomic alternate version of history. |
