This was too self-aware for its own good which became the most obnoxious thing about this story.

It thinks that being meta, breaking the 4th wall and parodying tropes makes for a clever story, but it never does anything thought provoking or meaningful. The way it crams a multiple tropes and references within 66 pages is not funny when its obviously trying to force a joke. The story constantly shifts direction because of this and leads to an unrewarding payoff that is also a tired trope.

I love meta storytelling, but this is everything wrong with people who think self-awareness on its own makes a good ...
