Have you ever been frustrated by protagonists with the emotional range of a teaspoon? You know, the ones so commonly seen in the "Reincarnation" fantasy subgenre; the brooding loner whose expression never changes, the confident badass who is always in control, the tortured former soldier who should definitely have PTSD by now but doesn't for some unknown reason... This comic is not about that kind of character.
Contrary to the rather generic sounding title of this comic, its MC, Rin aka, Rein, is a complex character who struggles with the grief of losing everything he ever knew and loved, while simultaneously still being a powerful and
...
ambitious mage. There is no single moment of him "deciding" to live life to the fullest, or correct mistakes from his past, etc. because that isn't how someone would respond to the trauma of waking up after death. All his close friends are gone, and Rin has survivor's guilt for sure. We see him continuously struggle with this, mourning his friends in private. But because he is fundamentally the same person as he was, this means that he is still a powerful mage and warrior, so the story retains it's sense of adventure and action. It's the best of both worlds.
The art is also a nice change from the ultra-polished smoothness that had become so popular recently. Heavy linework means that dire situations are given intense weight, not necessarily just extra glow effects over character eyes (for no particular reason), and it gives the comic a further distinct identity of its own.
TLDR: I cried multiple times reading this, even after only 2 chapters. The character writing is just that damn good. don't skip this one.
