"I will play the funeral march that's just for you."
For my first review I decided to do one for a manga that I recently finished reading, one that I absolutely love and that I believe is completely underrated in this site and everywhere in general. I'm talking about Undertaker Riddle, a manga created by Akai Higasa that started serialization in May 2009 in Gangan Online and finished in Mar 2013.
STORY (8/10):
Undertaker Riddle tells the story of Hayato Sakura, a normal high school boy with the ability to see and interact with ghosts, who meets a man whose name his Riddle that calls himself an
...
Undertaker, beings that fight evil spirits, and tells Hayato that those evil spirits are atracted to his soul and that he must become a Undertaker to fight those evil spirits.
To be honest this plot is nothing unusual, there are a lot of other stories with the same premise, boy/girl meets supernatural being and then becomes one of them, and in the beginning I didnt think that it was really that much enjoyable it was funny but nothing to "eyecatching", but then as the story started to unfold I begun getting really interested wanting to see what would happen next, to know more about Riddle, with a plot twist on the end full of feels, and an ending that I completely love.
ART (9/10):
The art made by Akai Higasa is, in my opinion, really beautiful I've read CucumberxSandwich and I am currently reading Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine and I'm in love with the art, defenitly something well done. My favorite part though is the background for the funerals, they are absolutely breathtaking (my favorite is Riddles) and with much details. Also the characters are also very well drawn, but maybe a little to alike, but not much as to make difficult to know who is talking.
CHARACTER (10/10):
I think this story really shines in its characters. We have the main protagonists, Hayato and Riddle along with a bunch of other characters all with their differents personality traits; from the woman who looks like a man with a siscom to the guy who is like a pupy until he starts fighting and becames a freaking badass, only to get back to being an adorable pupy after the fight ends. Everyone is lovable even the bad guys.
ENJOYMENT (10/10)
I honestly enjoyed this manga very much even if in the beginning I stoped for at least a month, I really loved it, from the story, to the characters and the art.
OVERALL (9/10)
Over all I give this manga a score of 9 and a place in my fav manga list. I really think you should give it a try, you wont regret it.
"My condolences."
