I consider 13 chapters a good enough benchmark to warrant a review. Especially for a manga like 'Maria no Danzai', which I assume would finish within 35-40 chapters at most.
The question is: Does the series live up to the somewhat high expectations of an avenging mother on her merciless SAW-inspired journey?
Definitely. In fact, the mangaka has surpassed my expectations with a nice balance of devilish scheming, gore/violence, and decent plot building.

Here I am, up to date with this little surprise. And I think I'm in a position to write a modest review of this manga.
First of all, in view of what I'd seen and heard, I was apprehensive about reading this work. I told myself that I was going to waste my time and that this manga would be as bad and execrable as the horrible Juujika No Rokunin (yes, I'm salty, and IDGAF!). Nevertheless, I was surprised by the writing and the care taken here by the 2 authors. So, yes, there are a lot of similarities with Juujika. However, I found Maria No Danzai ...

As someone who has caught up to chapter 17, I feel that's enough to write a review. The story is pretty engaging, showing the lengths of what a grieving mother would go through to get revenge. Revenge stories like these will always keep people on the fence due to the philosophy of "eye for an eye" vs "revenge isn't fulfilling in the long run." I'm personally a sucker for well written psychological thriller stories, whether it has to do with revenge or not. This story ticks the box for me in terms of enjoyment.

i changed my rating from 7 to 9 now you must be thinking im a newbie or i don't know how manga should be rated but but but
LISTEN I'm enjoying this because of the torture storyline, see i was disgusted when maria was fked by the old geezer but let's be realistic the story is actually a little unreal and that's what makes it good. The story itself is not peak but the turn of events is, and ofcourse the torture session its just the best, slow and painful death, i may be some kind of screw loose but hey i like it. I MAY ... |
