It can be Romeo and Juliet like stories in which the characters come from families/schools/etc. which are enemies but they love each other, because of very different social statuses, or for other reasons why the love is not allowed. Looking for quality BL but don't want to wade through a mountain of mediocre crap to find it? Then this is the list for you! A combination of 1st place award winners, #1 bestsellers and other BL manga that received top accolades between the years 2015-2019. Some manga pre-date this time frame but are included if they won an award or topped a list during one of these years. The cream of the yaoi crop! Most BL manga are very short and focus on the relationship of the main characters and one or a few problems that arise. This stack covers stories that are longer and where the focus is not so much on the typical relationship problems but also include non-relationship related plot. In some of these manga it's more BL subtext while the main focus is on something else. really just my fav bl mangas. please mind that some of these show/bring up triggering topics and/or are nsfw! very much based on my personal tastes, everything here has a larger story and plot, as well as depth of character. some may have romance and smut. most are rather dark. Here's a stack with titles that start off as either lighthearted/humorous, stereotypical in some ways or a bit generic. But than they turn into complex and memorable stories full of emotion. say no to school life, office romance, small towns, yakuzas, and idols, say yes to espionage and other unconventional jobs, stories set not in Japan, historical/fantasy settings, and more unconventional stuff (no overly dark stories though) The Meiji and Taisho eras spanned from 1868 to 1926, a period of modernization for Japan. When after 250+ years of self-imposed isolation (Sakoku), Japan came into contact with Western culture and got inspired by it. This period combines Japanese traditional culture with 19th century and early 20th century Western culture. All manga published by polish publisher Studio JG Among all the BL stories that I've read over the years, these are the ones that really resonated with me. They're full of those moments that just stick with you, with characters you can totally relate to, and stories that linger in your mind long after you finish them. This is my go-to list for historical/period BL manga/manhwa. I love stories that capture the vibe of different eras and offer a solid dose of timeless romance. Focuses on manga and realistic/grounded portrayals of time periods. So no manhwa, danmei and stories with supernatural elements. 2019 10th ChilChil BL Awards as voted by Japanese fans.: 2017 8th ChilChil BL Awards as voted by Japanese fans.: 2012 4th ChilChil BL Awards as voted by Japanese fans.: 2011 3rd ChilChil BL Awards as voted by Japanese fans.: |
