This review contains mild spoilers. I have currently read up to episode 100.
Suhee0 is a realistic take on the intimate lives of ‘just chatting’ streamers in South Korea and the parasocial relationships their viewers have with them. Suhee is a young adult who enters the world of streaming at first as curiosity, but later finds that it is her spider’s thread out of the hell of daily life.
Her family life is a mess. Due to her father’s past alcoholism and spousal abuse, her mother left the family when Suhee was a teen. She acts as a mother figure to her two younger

siblings and slowly becomes the backbone of the household income. Her work life is unfulfilling. She has no real skills outside of being able to show up for work each day. She has a boring boyfriend. If Suhee’s life were a color, it would be a hazy grey.
The author’s use of color palette, with subtle callbacks to characters and plot points, advance the overarching feeling of dread in a reader as one progresses through the story. The author is able to show multiple facets of characters during each episode that influences readers’ support or disdain from one episode to the next. Just like viewers on a streamer message board, each stream (episode) has us loving or hating the individuals for their inner thoughts, actions, and choices, and it is reflected in the WEBTOON comments below.
I would add a trigger warning to this story for anyone who has dealt with childhood abuse, addiction, suicidality, stalking, or emotional abuse from family/romantic partners. If reading works that deal with these themes help you to cope with your trauma, they are ever present. However, do not expect to gain hope from reading this WEBTOON. At the time of writing this, each episode has become more hopeless for the characters depicted within. It is truly a realistic take and shows that no matter how hard a main character tries, sometimes that’s not the hand we are dealt in life.
