It’s a good plot with a good character development. What I like is them NOT being enemies-to-lovers, because this is what I expected them to be. It’s not raise-my-lover trope too — which I thought when I read ch.1. Them being us-versus-the-world trope is excecuted SO GOOD. As a reader I seldomly see this trope, yet the MCs amazed me.
This manhwa really flipped me off. On the surface, I didn’t want to read this because I expected them to be the historical-romance comics I find everywhere. But the author really made me awe. The FL may be controlling & the ML may be the “dog”
...
at the first chapter, but the character development really pisses me off in a good way. At the end, they supported each other. Just the MCs in their own world.
I also thought the ML is just a dumb, naive guy who’s in most “strong girl dog boy” trope. But again, I was wrong. The ML supported FL in his own way. He’s actually smart, which is rare in historical romance manhwas.
“Maybe there’s a 2nd ML? Or maybe a 3rd one?” Wrong. This is also my thought, but no. There aren’t any more MLs. Well, maybe there’s the red-haired guy who obsess the FL and the white haired guy who flirts with her, but it was brushed off easily in a few chapters.
I had mixed feelings on the last 9 chapters, though. It’s a whole new long arc, which I don’t like because these are labeled as spin-offs. They’re nice to read, but I thought it’d be short since spin-offs are considered to be short arcs; just like filler episodes you find in animes.
I also don’t like them yapping about politics. It’s the visual for me, but I don’t care about the politics in a fictional kingdom.. jk I care but long speech bubbles just ain’t it for me. Maybe if they divide it into more bubble chats I’ll like it.
The artstyle is satisfyingly colorful. Even though some panels are anatomically off, but the colors presented covers it. Personally, I didn’t like the saturated & bright colors. But hey, if you’re a fan of retro-style colors with manhwa-style highlights, this is for you.
I rated this a 7 because I really like the plot, but they’re sometimes can be boring. And the other points above.
I’d recommend this if you like the “us-vs-the world” trope with historical scene. Or maybe if you’re tired of “‘strong FL’ who’s actually abusive but the world supports her” manhwas.
