You know when you start to write a review and the constant thought in your mind is "How is it even possible to fuck up in this?".
This is the piece of media to make me feel this same thing.
You are a college student working hard to get your degrees, stressed about your life trying to find a job, then suddenly your daughter, who you didn't even know you had, comes ringing outside your front door. This is the starting or basic outline of our plot. Now, not able to abandon her, because duh, she is her kid, he decides to take her in. And thus
...
the beginning of Ragnarök.
Now I would like to clear that first few chapters were fine. It had a little bit of story, focusing on main character's struggle as a college pupil, different roles of side characters and what is happening to them, a balanced dynamic between the father and daughter which felt fairly good to witness. It had everything in the balance. I don't know how the equilibrium got disturbed, but after those first few chapters it gained that subtle weird x creepy undertone. But the worst thing about it is, you will not be able to notice at which instant it starts to go downhill because it is like a slow killing poison.
Before the arrival of daughter he had all the struggles of his life. He was a blank canvas, endless possibilities for developing the character. But author chose the short stick, willingly. After the daughter arrived, the author decided to make him the most self-insert character out there. Now his life is a breeze; he became the most handsome person of the town, had job opportunities like never before, even had a fucking appearance as an extra in a tv show, got made into a meme and went viral online, was one of the most searched person, and now everyone is asking for his autograph..... *Sigh*.
But no no no no, that doesn't end there because the daughter is remaining. She is a dragon so she is nearly perfect in any and every way. She is a genius, but not any genius, once in a millennia genius. Learned college level maths before even attending school, learned piano by seeing his father play for her for a few seconds and is also a good chef.
As the story progresses, it becomes less about daughter and father, and more about genius and her assistant, really. The father becomes less like a father figure and more like he trying to catch up. Her daughter with all her modifications on her father, felt like she was treating his father like a game character; how we choose a character's looks. And with all the modification, the main character's value as a character just got burned down to another pretty boy in a manhwa.
And I don't get the motivation of the author behind trying to portray and develop them into perfect beings cause it doesn't make for a compelling story, even more so when that perfectionism is handed down to them.
