‘I Shall Live As A Prince’ is finished and thus one of the few manhwa I was allowed to read through. So now I can look back on the whole 88 chapters and have to restrain myself from criticising it to the ground because the last few chapters weren't good.

Reborn as Prince Jinseong, a modern Korean soon realises that his life is not as easy as he thought. For he has been reborn as the brother of the greatest tyrant in Korean history, of all people! At first despairing of what to do, he decides to rewrite the history of Korea when he sees his ... loving wife for the first time...

This is a historical drama about a time in a region I don't really know anything about. It would actually be quite important to me that a manhwa that claims to be grounded in the real history of Korea is actually historically accurate. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no way of assessing this. I also have to bear in mind that the manhwa was probably not made for the German potato and so many cultural aspects are taken for granted. At least for me it was always a stumbling block how the king or other high personalities acted. But can I criticise the fact that such things are not explained when the target audience knows such things anyway?

That said, this is my first semi-Isekai that at least addresses the idea of an alternate history scenario. What if Germany had won the First World War? What if America had never been discovered? What if the tyrant king of Korea wasn't a tyrant?
Unfortunately, the manhwa only touches on this topic very roughly. This is particularly unfortunate because there is an epilogue which takes place in the modern world after Prince Jinseong changed history - but I found the epilogue so subterranean anyway that it cost the book two stars from me.

Apart from that, the selling point of this manhwa - you can call it the reason why you should read it for all I care - is the endearing protagonist. He tries everything to protect his wife, family and country and will take any risk to do so. At the same time, there is some intrigue going on, which was at least as fascinating. From betrayal and attempted murder to feuds within the council that normally runs the country - Prince Jinseong's unusual, unpredictable actions make waves here and these waves are more than exciting to watch.

In return, the manhwa delivers one of the worst endings and one of the worst epilogues I've ever seen. Even if there hadn't been this epilogue, the ending would have been disappointing, even if I'm glad that ‘I Shall Live As A Prince’ wasn't dragged out indefinitely. But the epilogue is the cherry on top of the pile of sh*t, stop reading the manhwa with Chapter 84.

The story does not take itself too seriously and depending on your taste, that's either a good or bad thing. Personally, i had a fun time reading this manhwa.

The relationship the MC had with all the supporting characters was really wholesome.

It made me laugh how the MC was just minding his business half the time, and just by coincidence it was related to the more serious A plot, or did something for a carefree reason but other characters interpreted it as a political smart move.

I usually get really irritated with stuff like that but this manhwa managed to make it entertaining until the end ... and had me rooting for all the characters.

The art was really pretty too, i immediatly recognized it since its the same artist as The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor. The colors are vivid, a bit simple with some characters faces, but i think it fits the tone of the story.

While reading i saw some comments of people being angry with the side stories but i don't mind them at all, even though i totally understand where they are coming from. Ill say just think about them as a what if...? possibility.

Overall a good read, this manhwa is not perfect but i recommend it.
