Please keep in mind that, as of writing this review, less than 20 chapters of this manga are currently available.
Kentei Gakuin no Magan Kenja (KGMK) reads and looks like something from the very generic "reincarnation power fantasy" genre. Currently, the plot is nothing to write home about and the art is mostly passable and bordering on good, and occasionally bad. However, discovering this series was a pleasant surprise for a few reasons:
1. KGMK is a work that knows its limits. It does not attempt at being "smart", making the story and setting needlessly overcomplicated. It is generic, but still manages to be somewhat interesting
...
while maintaining some mystery to the greater plot.
2. The artist has issues with conveying action and more dynamic character angles. However, the artist is an above average colorist, and is also unexpectedly good (or novel) with using background effects. Occasionally it is surprising how well things come together on the page.
3. It looks like the series is currently on a weekly release schedule. The current pacing is slower than I would like, and there are better series belonging to this tired genre, but the frequency of its releases means that for now the series will move along at a decent enough pace.
KGMK is not a gem but can be in some ways a pleasant-looking rock.
