Both involve men in their middle ages trying to fit into their society. Both have a protagonist willing to fight for other people. There is dark comedy in both . Both protagonists have to endure hardships for a long time .

Boxing manga with a really depressive main character.

It's another by Kengo Hanazawa and it's very good. Not similar in story, but similar in how good he is with real character building and making a story both real and very enjoyable.

It's a long shot, but I get the same feeling from both - perhaps the seinen quality. Different stories. Different focus. Same strange hearty humor, somewhat obscenely hilarious in BotR, somewhat childishly charming for Solanin.

In both of these serialisations, the male protagonist finds boxing as a means of "progressing" in life.

In both manga the main characters are kind of pathetic and still struggle to "find themselves" and have a sort of unrequited or suffering from heartbreak. Both also utilizes a lot of dark humour and tragedy.

Although different in asthetic and tone, both series involve protagonists who were bullied but find boxing as a means of moving forward.
