There are no spoilers in this review! My grammar might be a little off, but please bear with me.

"The Hip Guy" has a synopsis that would make you think the story is too weird to read, but(t) it's the complete opposite! Here's why I love reading "The Hip Guy" and you should too.

Story: The story of "The Hip Guy" is astonishing. You look at it and you say "why not?". When reading the first couple of chapters you find yourself laughing at random little jokes. It's a simple read with a calming effect, but as every story marked with drama in the genre section, there ... is drama. That drama could make or break the story, luckily, it didn't. The drama made the story more intriguing, in a way where the readers are on the edge of their seat begging for more to see what happens next. I would personally say the drama isn't portrayed in a way where you get fed up with everybody and drop the story after screaming at the top of your lungs because the writing stresses you out. When going over something they take up the right amount of time and never drag it out. There is balance in everything here.

Art: It's no spoiler (considering it's in the synopsis) that Ga-eun Seong makes leggings. Naturally, she would most likely be fashionable if she works in the fashion industry. She owns various outfits (you can find out what style and how they look for yourself) but they look gorgeous really compliments the design of her characters' features. Though, she's not the only piece of art in this story. Other characters' designs and their outfits or cars, the interior and exterior of their house, the sky, and a simple parking lot (somehow caught my attention, maybe, I'm just basic. I'm not sure)

Character: The characters are really mature (unless they're on the opposing team, as expected of a bad character that thickens the plot of a story). Though, I'm especially talking about our main main character (yes, I put two of them on purpose) and our main character. Our main main character - Ga-eun Seong and our main character - Chan Gwak are extremely mature, I believe it comes from their experiences. Over the course of the story, you can see they are not afraid to put people in their place and do not let other peoples' negativity stop them from doing as they please. They get what they want, when they want (this is a good thing by the way). When the characters were placed in the story they were not shown at their lowest or highest and I think it's nice to start there because we the readers can't judge them to say they're crazy or extremely stupid (especially without getting to the point that tells you it's a flashback or a foreshadowing moment). It's never too late to become an even better version of yourself. If you love character development you should read "The Hip Guy", there's enough to go around even for...

Oh, yeah, and if a bad character is written good and can make you want them to leave they were written well.

Enjoyment: I didn't come for the butt and fart jokes at the beginning, but I stayed because of them and it led me to my "oop", "...oh", "Yesss" phrases, and so on.

Overall: If you find butt + fart jokes funny (or don't) you should be reading this. Do you like fashion? You should be reading this. Do you like drama that doesn't drive you insane and everybody is happy in the end? You should be reading this. Do you like romance that has an amazing subtle build-up and isn't dragged out? You should be reading this. Read it.

Overall, "The Hip Guy" is a hidden gem. 10/10 > 10-10 would recommend.

It started off decent and ended in a cliche. Like many others, I was firs pulled in by the weird synopsis. Asses? Seriously? I love it.

The first 40 chapters were OK, but it went downhill when MC started fighting her ex for her old company. She's a Mary Sue but decently likeable. Male MC is useless af. He is the epitome of a sugar baby, though he does try not to be. Out of nowhere in chapter ~16, he starts to develop feelings for her. I get that there was a few month timeskip, but at least show their development for god's sake. It just ... felt very out of the blue. It's not like they were lacking in chapters either, they still had 70 more. They just had to speedrun it. And now the third and last relevant character, her ex who shows up half way through the story. I don't even recall his name, other than he was blonde and had a cheating wife. He lost to the great MC Ms Seong eventually so what does it matter?

The comedy was quite good (mostly just ass and amogus references) but then faded into the background after 30 chapters or so and the romance is mediocre. A lot of cliches and you really can't get butterflies when the guy as I said before, is basically just a sugar baby. But I do appreciate that they are three dimensional characters and not just a stereotype. The company fighting + multiple chapters of overly-long flashbacks was the last straw for me. (Around chapter 50~)

The art is pretty good. It helped with the comedy A LOT. There are some semi-realistic expressions which do get a giggle out of me. Probably the best part of the series.

TLDR:
Fails as a comedy and romance. You're better off reading something else.
