The romance genre has been synonymous for "drama" and "misunderstandings" for as far back as history can recall. The few exceptions that do exist usually end up being generic and boring stories with no substance to them, targeted towards people with small and smooth brains that need to fill a void inside of them (aka me). However there is one redeeming factor for these types of shows, the factor of cuteness and sweetness that could give that last push towards a heart attack to any person with diabetes.

In "You and I are polar opposites" this "cute factor" is practically on steroids. Every interaction in this ... manga fills you with this overwhelming sense of wholesomeness, that can make you forget the fact that your life is actually pretty garbage. Looking at the couples in this show made me feel like a 13 year old girl, the way it got me giggling.

You'd think that'd get repetitive but that's not the case, since there's actual character development and the dialogue is pretty fun. My favorite character of the series, for example, is this self-critical guy who initially prejudices the protagonist to be lower than him in the social-food-chain, but quickly realizes his own flaws and grows from it. I believe it's things like these that make the cast feel 3-dimensional and interesting.

The art style is also really clean and easy on the eyes, which fits perfectly for this type story. If you have even the slightest interest in romance manga, then I highly recommend you give this series a shot.

You and I Are Polar Opposites is incredibly laid back and refreshing. Both protagonists are not the perfect savior of the relationship to the other. They are two teenagers just figuring out how to navigating how to be in a relationship with someone outside of themselves. Are they the most in depth characters filled with nuance and backstory? Hell no. But they do not need to be, the characters work with the established tone very well.
The main characters are very likeable as well as the side characters. which surprised me 7 chapters in. But that goes to show the very well administered characterization through not ... only the personality but the range from sweet and subtle to bold and bubbly art.
There is no outright story structure, which is not a bad thing, though there is a narrative start and progression. So it can be both serialized and seem episodic. A best of both worlds approach in my opinion.
Give it a shot folks, I have really enjoyed this reading so far!

Yeah I don't write reviews because honestly I don't like them. People like to be critics for the sake of it and hyperanalysing everything just gives you a negative outlook. I just want to give my honest opinion which is that this is probably my favorite shoujou manga of all time. So fucking underrated.

The #1 thing about it is the fucking dialogue. Oh my god it is so refreshing to read conversations that seem real. Characters feel like real people. Their opinions are well thought out and woven into their characters. ... I might be a fan of shitty shoujou but in my search for more I happened to stumble upon a gem. Chapter 44 and 45 went incredibly hard aswell. I highly recommend you read it. You will probably fall inlove from the first chapter alone.

This manga is too adorable. I had my doubts when I saw the poster in the Manga Plus app because I thought it'd be one of those stories with the extroverted girl who fell for the uninteresting guy, but thanks to a positive review I watched on YouTube I gave this manga a try... and oh boy, it was the best decision ever.

The characters are great. Not only the main couple is amazing, but all of the side characters are lovable and have very distinct personalities. But the two MC are the best. As the title suggests, they are polar opposites, but not in ... a way that makes you think "there's no way these two people would date each other in real life". (They kinda remind me of the main couple in Wotakoi, but teenage version and not otakus). The interactions between characters is very realistic as well. I felt like a was reading actual conversations I had with friends or people I dated. Everything these characters experience feels totally relatable, and they act like actual teenagers.

The story is not the most original thing ever. It's pretty chill and slice-of-lifey, but it makes it even more enjoyable to read. It's sweet and fluffy, and extremely funny.

The art is very simple too, even cartoonish at times, but this makes it 100% more enjoyable. The faces and expressions are hilarious, and also makes the serious moments stand out more as they are more stylized.

Overall, this manga is great. If you are into romcom and slice-of-life manga, you must read this. It's just starting, I think there are around 20 chapters out as of Jan 23, but this manga looks really promising and I really hope they keep the story this fluffy and adorable.

Too many romance series end right when the couple gets together. This manga, shows the life of being a couple and it is incredibly wholesome. Just as the title of the manga suggest, the main couple are completely opposites in terms of personality. Suzuki Miyu is a high energy, extroverted person who falls in love with the very quiet, introverted Tani Yuusuke.

The manga explores how both these characters deal with being a couple as they are both very new to all of it. While the series is mostly a fun slice of life, it does have some drama in some of the issues and tribulations ... of being a teenage couple. However, the drama feels very grounded and never over the top.

There are some supporting character relationships that are also very sweet that is explored in the series as well. The other supporting characters have different issues they face which are also very interesting to read.

The manga has great pacing and it doesn't ever feel like it is dragging or overstaying its welcome. The only issue I wish the ending concluded more of the things for the supporting characters as well rather than just the main.

Nevertheless, it is definitely one of the better modern romance manga and I am glad it is getting an anime adaptation in 2026!

This is probably my comfiest recent rom-com manga, along with 'Kekkon Suru Tte, Hontou Desu Ka'? A solid 9/10 all around.

Is it original? No. But the pacing and overall atmosphere are so darn natural and adorable that it really doesn't matter. Out of all those new wave-y gyaru meets introvert dude scenarios, this one stands out with how refreshing and laid-back it is.

The comedy in 'Seihantai' is on point: the illustrations are both hilarious and whimsical, and the mangaka's creativity shines through a lot of the panels. Forget about chuckling, I've had quite a few hearty laughs from some ridiculous art depictions (the konbini toilet ... paper scene got me cracking up).

Character development is another thing that's done right. Don't expect some ultra-deep characterization here, but you know what - the cast feels REAL and just organic with the way the mangaka has built these teenagers.

Stellar pacing too, with as few fillers as possible - and even whenever there's fluff in front of you, it feels just right, not boring/forced/superfluous.

It does help that the side cast is also very endearing and well-represented, something not commonly found in the genre.

So far, so good - I hope 'Seihantai' continues in the same vein. It's a breath of fresh air and one of those wholesome manga pieces people of any age and mood can enjoy with a smile on their face.

One word: Real. This manga is all too real. It isn't nearly as dramatic as some other romance mangas but it isn't a slow grindfest either where you have to wait 100+ chapters just for the characters to start dating. The reason why this manga stands out to me is its characters. The setting, the plot all those things are as generic as can be. However, the characters are anything but boring.

Take Taira for instance. In short he used to be fat but then he gets a glow up but despite this he still holds on to his past anxiety and overthinks everything. A ... lot of people will be able to relate to Taira which is why he is such an excellent character. He embodies what many of us felt during high school or middle school. I keep coming back to the manga just to see Taira and his relationship with the blondie since he slowly seems to be thawing out of shell by interacting with her (mind you they aren't even the main couple). As for the main couple (pink haired girl and the nerdy glasses guy). They're aight. Nothing new but still a great depiction of the classic extroverted loud gal with quiet geeky guy.

Now onto the art. The art style is unique. It's clean and minimalistic. It won't blow your mind or anything but it is simple and effective and works well with the type of story the manga is working with.
