Okay, I can't believe this doesn't have a review yet so I am going to attempt a spoiler-free one (SPOILER AT THE VERY BOTTOM WITH A WARNING BEFORE IT).
Firstly, this manga is very different from other shoujo/josei manga in the way it portrays its main characters and the way the story is played out. In order to explain I will break it down.
Plot: 8/10 Our main character is a 25 year old woman who has been in an abusive relationship for 6 years and slowly realizes just how isolated she has become through her interest in makeup. What makes this plot interesting is that makeup
...
is not something she uses to empower herself; it is her interest in something purely for herself and her boyfriend's unsupportive reaction that opens her eyes to the abuse she has been facing for so long. It is extremely realistic and well-written.
Characters: 8.5/10 I will not go through each characters, but I will mention that I have so far enjoyed every single one. Each character has depth and does not follow any of the typical stereotypes. You understand their feelings, how they come to the conclusions they make, and are shown inklings of each one's past which built them to the person they are today. And can I mention the COMMUNICATION??? They actually TALK to each other to resolve issues and hold HEALTHY CONVERSATIONS. It's incredible.
Art: 6.8/10 The art is a mix of webtoon and classic manga, leaning a little more towards the webtoon style. It's not the most amazing art but it isn't bad by any means. I can't say anything much about it.
Enjoyment: 7.5/10 I really enjoyed the majority of the chapters. The openness and communication, paired with its genuine realism, is refreshing in a manga and I really love our main character's slow progression in life. Here is where I will bring a few ******SPOILERS*******
I started getting really frustrated with the ML once she separated from her abusive ex. Him pushing his feelings onto her after she just ended a nearly decade long abusive relationship feels really selfish and annoying, especially considering the ML's claims that he will support her through her breakup. Getting romantically involved is not supportive. I also genuinely did not feel that our FL has any romantic feelings for the guy, but due to how selfless and naive she is it almost feels like she agreed to date just because she feels badly for wanting him only as a friend. It started making me not want to continue. And since the scantlations have stopped at 42, I don't know if I see myself continuing anytime soon.
