If I were to read the synopsis of Ottoman instead of looking at just the cover, I wouldn't of even given this a chance, cuz I mean "dreams of becoming a manga artist" "aliens invade" "Husband-man" has got to be one of the most generic and basic anime and manga tropes (disregarding the "husband-man" bit, that just sounded plain stupid) ever right? right? WRONG!

Ottoman is a relatively new superhero (yes superhero) series and as of this review has only 8 chapters released, and already I'm giving it an 8 which can rise higher if done right.

Plot: (7.5/10) Ottoman follows our protagonist Souma who's an ... ordinary salaryman who hates his work and hopes and dreams of becoming a manga artist. This dream however is interrupted when one day, when he was coming back from work, he was hit by truck-kun. An Alien then save his life by possessing his body, giving him super-human like qualities that are powered by his love for his wife.

Ok, before you go "no thanks, this sounds pretty shit" finish this review before deciding to give it a go or not.

What makes Ottoman unique from other generic manga's, is that it uses this concept of superhuman abilities powered by positivity and love in an exaggerated way, yet making it intriguing enough for the reader not to cringe at the mc. Another thing that adds to the story is that Ottoman has a seinin demographic, which means that there is plenty of blood, plenty of guts, plenty of decapitated heads and screaming. Heck, there's even some nudity as well (which before you get your hopes up, there's only a couple of naked girls with decapitated heads in some early chapters if that somehow 'excites' you).
The actual events that occur in this manga are sort of generic as well, but this changes when the MC makes a different and 'newish' decision which adds a few extra dynamics to the story I suppose.
Some other qualms I had with the plot was that the MC is a tiny bit too clingy for his wife, but hey I can't really blame him on this one tbh, cuz the wife is literally God's gift.
Keep in mind, this is a superhero manga, so there's gonna be your common themes of 'saving people' (though in this case only specific people but no spoilers).

Art: (9/10) I mean this is pretty self-explanatory, the art is seriously amazing. Attention to detail in panels are amazing. Everything is amazing. (The cover page of this manga is actually what intrigued me enough to give it a go). 10 years ago this would've been god-tier art, now it's still god-tier art so appreciate it people.

Character: (8/10) MC IS NOT ANNOYING! Now ain't that something to celebrate about, am I right? Our MC Souma loves his wife very much (might seem a bit random but you'll know what I mean if you read it), which is good. What makes him especially good is that he isn't some half-assed MC with no convictions and that he makes decisions very quickly. Out of the two main MC types, Souma is definitely on the goofy side, however, he's neither weak-minded (rather the opposite) or a coward which is one of his positive traits.

The other relevant character at this stage is of course the MC's wife, which I understand completely why he loves his wife and I will forever envy him even though he isn't real. Forget Mikasa, Forget Miku, Forget any waifu you have, this chick is the top grade waifu material of manga and you'll know why when you read it. All I can say is she's a W character and a W wife, I mean there's not much else you can say other than that.

Enjoyment: (8/10) Definitely am enjoying Ottoman so far and will be keeping up with the releases. I feel has a lot of potential and in perhaps a few volumes time get mentioned on some gigguk or animeman vid, which will help blow it up probably. Which I am confident it will, if it keeps up with the quality it's dishing up now.

Overall: 8/10, please give it a shot for at least 5-7 chapters, because you will quickly find out it's worth it!

I really like seeing more mangas where relationships between the MC and their love interest are wholesome and more matue. Most of relationships in a typical shounen manga are modeled on many stereotypes of how highschoolers behave, so I always enjoy seeing adult people behaving like adults should and just not being toxic towards eachother. So having another manga that does not perpetrate those toxic stereotypes is a good thing and more people should read it. Story and the world are enough to keep you interested. The art is pretty good, characters are expressive and detailed, but action can be chaotic at times. The main ... star of this title is the main couple, who are incredibly cute and loving towards eachother, which is the main reason for my enjoymend of Ottoman.

I really recommend this title, please buy it and read it, I don't want it to get the axe :(
