Do you think when you poop? Do you get weird ideas while pooping? If not, then the author Junji Ito is one hundred percent yes. All the stories in this book seemed to me as if the author made them up on the toilet. It would explain why it ends up with an open ending or an incomprehensible ending. It would also explain why one story is quite funny and the other is stupid. I think it all depended on whether the author pooped well. If the pooping process was more demanding and lengthy and the poops splashed hard, we got a slightly longer story
