The difficult topic about this story is the premise of dating your former bully. I saw a lot of readers getting upset about the idea and as someone who also was bullied by other kids in Junior High, I totally understand that. Everyone's deal with those feelings or memories in different ways. I can clearly see that our female lead was affected by all this because she still bitterly remembers her former bully and how that clearly affected her confidence and self-esteem. I think is important to remember that often people change and don't remain the same over the years and I think that was
...
a bit of the beauty of this fantasy: The idea that the person that used to hurt you actually atone to their past actions and have a chance for a start over.
The main reason I picked this title is because I saw the cover art and really liked the male lead (I'm into the "Glasses Guy" type). I'd dive into this expecting nothing at all and found out our male lead is a "Sadistic Boyfriend" type (another type of character I really enjoy) so automatically I just found myself enjoying every moment of this story.
Something that greatly surprised me was the "subversion of expectations": Kyosuke, our male lead, will do something very questionable and you would think bad about him... but later new info will drop that clears any misunderstanding and he gets free of all charges. It was funny to read people mad about this and how "toxic" the relationship was. I think if you're worried about Kyosuke initial behavior, I want to tell you that the story slowly goes into explaining why he is like this and is up to the reader to buy it or not. I also really like the develop of the relationship: I saw people complaining about how bad they communicated, but I think is pretty normal for a couple not to know how to comunicate properly right from the bat, and of course, all this drama exist for the sake of the plot.
The main point of the story is the smut and I think the autor did a great job here because the smut never gets boring, it always surprise you with something different (when you think is going to escalate, they slow down in a good way). I think is a problem when a story has smut and it gets very repetitive and makes the story boring but here was not the case at all, so it was really very pleasant to me (The guy is wild and enjoys eating her a lot). I have to warn that this work contains scenes of "con-non-con" that couldn't be suitable to some people so discretion is advised.
Tomoe, our female lead, is our typical pure-hearted plain jane that wants to get married and that only quirky trait is that she loves dinosaurs a lot. Still I think she is really cute and beautiful and pretty enjoyed how Kyosuke talks about her with devotion. I also really liked how she slowly starts gaining a lot of confidence in herself and becomes more bold. It feels like while young Kyosuke cut her wings, adult Kyosuke give her a new pair to fly.
Kyosuke is our very cliché sadistic lover boy for this type of story: He is handsome, smart, stoic, build like a brick house, comes from a good family that has a lot of money and he is incredible doted in bed. You know, that one guy in this type of story. A side from the sadistic personality, I really enjoy the "sugar and ice" trope that comes with him, he acts like he is very mean and cranky but he is actually very sweet and earnest so I think he really tries to do the best for Tomoe's sake.
To conclude, I really liked this because even if the fantasy is cliché, includes some of my very favorite tropes, so if you're into them too, you will enjoy this work. Definitely if you hate the "Sadistic Boyfriend" type you should avoid this manga because you will get incredible mad about everything that happens here and you will hate it to your core.
