BJ Alex it's one of the manhas the had made me excited for every new chapter. I am fond of stories of relationships that don't start in a convencional way which is the case, it may not be the most original plot, but the way the characters developed was satisfactory. Nevertheless, if you dislike manhwas with unequal feelings between the protagonists in the start, it may not be a good choice for you. Why is it getting popular again? After years of telling me yaoi is getting better, I checked it out. And I'm disappointed.
Psychological violence, manipulation, coercion, more like a parody on Killing Stalking. Only with a happy end. Uke is another victim of Stockholm syndrome and another seme abuser rapist who is changing for unknown reasons. Zero motivation, logic, poor character development. The characters are shallow and not interesting. Nothing interesting. Typical yaoi manga.
Art is great. BDSM is terrible. The plot revolves around sex, or rather rape on the main character. Who is ... boring, not curious, I can't feel sorry for him. And the emotional abuser, rapist Alex. Apart from a beautiful face, there is nothing in it. The plot is not original, it does not add anything new.

I'm not entirely sure why people bloated this manhwa up so much. Maybe that's because of TikTok making "BJ Alex" a meme of some kind a while ago, so even non-manhwa readers started reading and hyping it up as a joke (but I think it's not a joke anymore, seeing people fighting in the comments everywhere protecting main characters by cyberbullying anyone with even a slight hint of dislike towards "BJ Alex").
I think the rating, 8,20/10 as of the moment, is not fair for this manhwa. And this is why:

1) Story 5/10
The story is not that bad, it is just sheerly mediocre. Some people might ... say it is awful because of all the rape episodes, but I don't think that is the main problem. In my life, I've seen many traumatizing-able things, so I don't find rape or emotional abuse to necessarily worsen the plot and make the book immediately repugnant, since it may be needed to build up some characters' background and relay how they turned up screwed or mentally unstable. The problem with "BJ Alex" is that such scenes were not needed, which makes the author seem to be romanticizing such things. That affects the enjoyment more than the story itself, and the plot, as I've stated before, is your average love story's plot. 5/10 it is.

2) Art 8/10
Well, as an artist, I must admit that the artwork is pretty clean. I also really liked seeing the monochrome coloring style first time in a while reading manhwas. The author's art style is pretty easily distinguishable, which is a good thing. I don't think the artwork is exceptional though, hence, I've put 8/10 for that.

3) Characters 5/10
What "BJ Alex" has to offer its readers is:
-an emotionally unavailable toxic camboy with commitment and abandonment issues (main character)
-a naive, sentimental, and sweet cinnamon roll, totally not a simp (main character)
-a BDSM camboy daddy (side character)
-a submissive and breedable BDSM enthusiast with too much libido and energy (side character)
It seems that the 1st rule of most romance manhwas is to make side characters and their storylines more engaging than the actual main characters. Yeah, the main characters are well-written but are way too average and predictably simple, and the side characters are so good that it sucks in here to not be able to see more of them, therefore, it's pretty much obvious that the author didn't use up all the potential of these two. Such a loss. Overall the mark is 5/10 because most of the time the readers see the classical quarrels of classically written main characters, which is usual for romance manhwas.

4) Enjoyment 2/10
A mediocre story on par with mediocre characters would make the manhwa pretty boring as it is, but what a piece of luck - this manhwa also romanticizes rape, toxic relationships, and abuse and gains so much recognition out of that. Every work must have its charms, but I don't enjoy how things escalated in this one. Yup... I fancy the side characters' storyline though. 2/10 for me.

The overall score is 5/10. If you want to read something good, there are way better manhwas than this one, but, I guess, you may want to spare some time on "BJ Alex" for the sake of side characters.

**Finally realised that MAL added this manhwa on their system, read this last February**

After I took a break from reading yaoi for a while and honestly I am glad that I decided to read this very saucy realistic yaoi webtoon cause it was so good! Now I have to advice people that there are again a lotta saucy and forceful scenes in this so you have been warned if they don't live up to your standards!

Definitely Jiwon and Dong are a great couple. I didn't think of it at first but honestly as I kept reading on, I felt they were both a match ... made in heaven. I usually don't go into detail when it comes to yaoi as some tend to have the same storyline but this webtoon is personally for me, one of the decent yaoi stories out there. Not the mega best but does the job for me to be intrigued and interested on how things progessed for the lads!

Give it a read peeps, it's story, characters and art are very well done! ^^

To start off, the only reason I didn't rate this lower is because 1. the art was pretty good. 2. it's sort of a unique concept in the sense that it's about a cam person trying to hide his identity and the mc finds our their identity and falls for them. and 3. the eroticism is good AT THE END.

Now as for all the reasons I disliked maybe even hated this story. 1. why why why why why fucking why is there a trope that makes the male lead so fucking mean and rude to the sweet and nice mc. WHY is that a fucking ... thing. it's such a HUGE turn off seeing the main character just COMPLETELY disregard what an ass hole the male lead is acting like and still pining over them. like have some decorum it's embarrassing at this point. and why the fuck is male lead so fucking mean. like why. that shit makes me so mad like you're automatically 10x's uglier at this point. i don't give a fuck who broke your heart that doesn't give you the right to be a shitty person. 2. no consent. this added on to the fact that the male lead was already an asshole to begin with almost made me immediately click off. i hate HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE when there's no consent. going along with your partner and doing what they are basically forcing you to do because you're too timid or scared to speak up for yourself IS NOT FUCKING CONSENT. what makes it worse is i actually went through something so similar which makes this shit even more unbearable.

and that's all. if those two reasons are enough to immediately think hmm this manhwa sounds like every other basic rape condoning manhwa i've read, seen, or heard of before then idk what to tell you. you're choosing to remain complacent/ignorant for the sake of your desires.

Mild spoilers: This is yet another case of a good BL story that has been tainted by an abundance of unnecessary non-consensual sexual encounters. Basically, the ML is a huge fan of BJ Alex who is a famous cam boy and content streamer. They begin to have a sexual relationship on very unequal footing and BJ Alex takes to punishing him with rape whenever he’s feeling (needlessly) insecure about their relationship.
And yes, of course the relationship evolves into a loving one. That’s the entire point, right? The protagonist tames the bad boy. But why does BJ Alex have to be a rapist? Surely in ... this day and age there are LESS people who want to read about someone getting raped that the latter? Furthermore, the author of this Manhwa went on to write Jinx which I had to drop in the first few chapters because it has EVEN MORE rape than BJ Alex. Like why? Also, for what? The last 30% of the chapters are so damn cute. It really sucks that the author chose to make BJ Alex so completely un-redeemable in my eyes.
Anywho, I’m mad about it. The ML’s best friend, Chanwoo seemed to be the only one trying to hold BJ Alex accountable for being scum even though Chanwoo didn’t actually even know the worst of it. Thusly, Chanwoo is MVP.

A wholesome series with a lot of passion, love, excitement, anxiety, sadness, laughter, good character build up, good backstory and main story, but it misses something which i cant pin point at.

The series is about BDSM, not a fifty shades of grey BDSM (soft) and not some hard core stuff either, just normal stuff. You easily sympathies with the characters has you grow to learn more about them and their past, as well how they feeling and thinking in the present time. I think i feel... That it is sometimes a little "messy" with the back and forth part from the past and presents. ... Has i feel the translations could have been smoother. This may feel like this way, cause ive recently read a newer Manhwa from the same creator, and this one is "older", yet im trying not to compare those two.

But yes, i like how everything is put together and how well everything just click. I feel some of the side characters were kinda thrown out/off the series without an explonations towards the end, and i had to read the side stories or the Q/A at the end to figure out what happen to them, which is a little sad. They could have been involved/rounded out of the main series in a more nice way i feel like.

Yet i recommend it a lot. Very unsure if i want to give it a 8,5 or a 9, but i go with the score of 9. :)

BJ Alex is the first manhwa written by Mingwa, and arguably one of the most popular BL manhwa of all time. Does it live up to the hype? Definitely.

BJ Alex is about Dong Gyun, a gay man who is a huge fan of a cam boy that goes by the name of "BJ Alex" (clever title reference ik), Dong Gyun shortly finds out that BJ Alex is actually Ahn Jiwon, the student council president of the college that Dong Gyun goes to, and then their relationship goes on from there.

BJ Alex is the manhwa that popularized BLs and yaoi, and for good reason. The character ... development for both of the main cast is excellent, and the story flows very smoothly with it. It doesn't feel rushed at all, and instead takes it time to tell it's story and characters in a way that's truly refreshing.

I will say that the story definitely felt cliche at first, and does feel boring to people who have already read other BLs, as well as that except for Chanwoo and MD, the other side characters aren't really touched upon in the slightest. But this manhwa definitely had more pros than cons imo.

If you would like to get into yaoi or just BL manhwa in general, BJ Alex is definitely an excellent start.

Honestly talking... I was expecting WAYYYY More about this story, anyways, was not bad, I wanted that the author explored way more about characters life (aside of their relationship) I wanted to read more about their school life, their work, families, how are their relationship with their families are but i got littles flashbacks and no one of them were close properly (for me at the least).

Even when i like the main couple - they are kinda cute after all the problems- I found the second couple way more interesting than the main... Why we didn't get more about them? Maybe because they were ... more interesting that the main... Anyways i enjoyed everytime they were there.


The CHANGE that Jiwon made after the confessiong was cute but UNEXPECTED, he really came with a whole new personality, was annoying and i couldn't believe that 180° change... Why you change so much your personality in just a moment? You were horrible with your couple for so many chapters and JUST BECAUSE you realized you are in love i gonna forgive you? I don't think so... I thin the most annoying this of all this work is the sudden change in his personality, honestly were unbelievable... And all this time I was trying to excuse this change with "maybe it's because he is in love" "maybe he realized he was a sht with him and that's why he change" both are thruth but you can't just change all your habits and bad personality just because.

I am actually given to this story such a good score for two arcs that I really liked it, and the two of them just show us the sad reality of our society and not everything is support and love, it's sad but it's true.

Plus) i didn't like the little arc where Jiwon were trying to stop to smoke ... The thing I didn't like was how everything was resolved ... Why was he like that? You can see how sad was his partner.

“BJ Alex” holds powers of structure, presentation and attraction. Scenes and scenarios feels lively. It never gets overly bogged down in the drab and dreary. It feeds you just enough character transformation, smut and pander to keep you reading. It works, it’s enjoyable, but I’m tired.

The confluence of story beats that keep this body functioning could not be more rote. Development in far too many manhwa is conditional on the presence of the viewer i.e. Dong-Gyun still being stiff as a board upon meeting one of his old friends, previously disgusted at his homosexuality. Surely there are more directions this sort of meeting ... and resolution can be tackled from? His reactions plays into the character we have seen in the story so far, but it doesn’t speak true to the reality that even just a handful of years can be impactful in the way in which one considers and reacts to their “trauma”.

My mind immediately goes to the best in this and tangentially related genres I’ve read. “Cheese in the Trap” does the psychological off kilter perfect boy much better than “BJ Alex”. Yoo Jung is manipulative and vindictive, and those elements don’t necessarily change through out the run of the story, but he does develop and recognise that people don’t view that aspect of himself positively. Alex on the other hand shifts so wildly from hard to soft boy that it just seems arbitrary if you don’t buy into the preconditions for his “growth”/”change”.

In fact, concrete identities is something “BJ Alex” struggles with generally. Apart from the instances of uni-dimensionality (the overweight bully lol)… Dong-Gyun is obviously a pillowy soft boy, but I’ve read a commenter praising his ability to be confrontational when required. However, he generally leaves me wanting. Not necessarily because he doesn’t seem like a character with some dimension, but because he isn’t viewed as needing “fixed” in the same way Alex is. This is understandable to an extent. Alex is a right royal cock and gets abusive for no good reason at points in the story. But personally I have always detested a lack of recognition in the negatives associated with being overly nice and easy going. Personalities have positives and negatives. This simply adds to me finding Alex’s personality shift jarring. A soft boy made hard through the trauma of a previous relationship. A bit boring. A bit unbelievable.

“All About Lust” is an example of a smutty yaoi manhwa that builds concrete, interesting identities for it’s characters, while also veto’ing the requirement for them to be damaged by their homosexual identity. The characters hobbies and interests even factor into the start and development of the relationship! This is completely foreign to “BJ Alex”. After all, what do the main pairing seem to care about apart from each other? What are their hobbies? How do they spent their time outside of each other? You can extract some information, but not enough from the total run of “BJ Alex”.

Ultimately I understand that these stories are created for straight girls, by straight girls. They are also created by Koreans (manhwa duh), which is a cultural atmosphere that I have no knowledge of as a born and bred Briton! But as a G A Y M A N I am highly fatigued by the picture stories like this draw of the le gay experience. I am not normal by any means, not even when compared against the average homosexual, but coming out is something that one moves past relatively quickly once it originally happens. I have lots of good heterosexual male and female friends, and the quirks of our relationship are a myriad more interesting than anything I’ve ever seen presented in a manhwa. I just find my own experience poorly reflected on and done little justice when it is spelled out by these authors.

In conclusion, I enjoyed “BJ Alex”. All prior compliments hold, and the sex scenes are really good. But as my time is increasingly sucked into the blackhole of full time work, I am becoming even more of a stickler for “MORE”. I really enjoy romance and yaoi manhwa, but I want MORE. “BJ Alex” is physically invigorating, but not spiritually or intellectually.

I quite liked the story, albeit a cliche one. Bad boy falls in love with innocent uke. But I find the story pretty compelling and has a lot going on that helped the it progressed well. What I had a hard time wrapping my head around is the fact that the seme doesn't really had the best redeeming quality to him, and I had warmed up to his character after it ended, like on those side stories. And the uke was forgiving and was so hung up on the seme. But all's well that ends well, I guess. I'm just glad I finally read the ... infamous BJ Alex and could now relate to memes and stories I see online. But we can all agree that MD is best boy! I really liked his character a lot. We don't really know much about him other than he's a dominant, but the way he treats his sub and how considerate and kind he was to his uke was precious. It's not too hard that he is very good looking too. I liked their story a lot too, I wish there could me more to it.

I like it but not necessarily love it.. The story is kinda cliche, at first, they were fbuddies and Dong-gyun was the one in love and well yknow the next thing gonna happen.. but what I do like tho is the character development that Alex had, I don't excuse what he had done but he's happy now. Also, I don't care what other people say but I still prefer the main couple over Md and Changwoo, they just gave me a headache haha. They're too different from the main couple and a bit too much .. uh bdsm for my liking, maybe it's a personal ... preference as someone who's not really knowledgeable about it. So yeah there.

BJ Alex is not a story that makes you feel butterflies, especially in the beginning. The story starts pretty aggressive and the top guy is very good looking, but his personality makes you drop the series. He is very mean with the bottom guy that loves him so much, and makes him suffer a lot through the story.

The top guy, Alex is a top broadcaster and he is watched all the time by DG (bottom) because he is one of his biggest fans, and he also has a crush on this popular guy. The problems come pretty fast as soon as they meet.

BJ Alex is ... a story "come and go", by that i mean that the characters have no idea what to do and they change faster than the weather and refuse to admit what is needed and when is needed.
Without spoiling, i want to mention that the story becomes very sweet after they both confess and accept each other.

Barely read it in the beginning but the 2nd half of the story made me rate it a bit higher because it ended very cute and healthy.

This was actually my first ever manhwa and boy, I could not have asked for a better way of getting into the medium.
Going into this, I did not expect to get as invested into the story as I did. But every character was well written and had me care about them in some sort of way (anger, compassion, empathy etc.). Every single character served a purpose in a story that has no right to be as good as it is. Even if you aren't into yaoi, I recommend this just because it is quite a unique romance story. I admit, there are some "minor" issues ... here and there, but the ending will leave you satisfied and you will get a happy ending (pun intended).

Final Rating: 8/10 (I only got hard 13 times, not gay enough)

So...the story was i dont know i guess a little to rapey for me...but i really liked the ending story but the beginning just felt odd and weird. Like sure i like friends with benefits but it was just odd and forceful on Dg and i felt like jiwon didn't know how to be respectful to dg as well...but the art was outstanding i wish to read more manhwas that are that type of art style :)..the characters they are great my favorite must be chanwoo and md solely because how they solely become like no love in their relationship but ... progressed with trust and talking about each others feelings. my enjoyment is at least an 8 because i read it in less then 3 days ! during a school week so....yea that means i enjoyed it a lot and overall score i am willing to give it is 7.

This was absolutely disgusting I had to drop it i dont even know what was going through the authors head to make a story like this

There's stuff like assault, abuse, and just overall traumatizing stuff and this sh*t is weird asf there are definitely better stories to be reading than this one

The characters were terrible, extremely unlikable and I dont think anyone could ever enjoy this story or the plot and if they do then their disgusting as well
