Geek-fulfillment fantasy with cool powers and decent art, main characters who are so shounen it's not even funny.  

Both are fantasy Shonen Sunday manga where the protgonist is in a tournament that lasts most of the series. 

Rare items are being used by 2 factions to fight a war a young boy who knows little of this war or about the sciences behind the items but has a great ability to use them forms his own team and fights to unite the world ARMs / O-Parts have a wind range of usages from cooking, transportation, and weapons they are mysterious items with great powers depending on the user it can help the world in many ways Spirit/Magic is required to use them and not all people have this ability spirit/magic can be trained and is greatly effected by the user mental state and can change some of the characteristics of the ARM/O-Parts read more 

Both have a young guy who have the similar mind, naive and optimistic through all times. They both also have the factor of seeming weak yet at the end of the battle their wits help them win.  

The characters in Mar really resemble the main characters in One piece, one similarity is that they are all fighting for a goal. In Mar, it’s to bring peace to Mar by defeating the Chess Pieces in a fighting contest while in One Piece, it's to find One Piece the ultimate titular pirate treasure. ~Luffy and Ginta have similar personalities (being Shonen heroes) are both the leaders of their respective teams ~Zoro and Alviss both don't like the leader at first, but they eventually come to. They also have similar personalities ~Usuop and Jack seem really weak at first, but they both want to get stronger. ~Nami and Dorothy are both sort of thieves and they try to con Luffy/Ginta when they meet them ~Sanji and Nanashi are both womanizing pervz Both manga have the whole “protect my friends and my goals” thing going for them. They also both have their funny moments and great fights that you never get bored of. read more 

Another typical shounen, with a boy Dai set on a quest to save the world. He meets lots of friends and enemies, learns magic and fighting skills. Nice read. 

Both involve chess pieces in a fight. They feature the 5v5 style. 

Both of them have a large tournament. If you loved the Dark Tournament in Yu Yu Hakuhso, then you should like MAR, which is pretty much all one big tournament.

Kurou(Flags) is very similar to Ginta(MÄR),in many aspects.They both entered a fighting championship to save(MÄR-Heaven[Ginta])or Toutou(Kurou).They both are given a weapon with 8 powers.Fing is too a more friendly version of Phantom.Their father was in battle before too. 

Average boys get called to another world and unlock their potentials -- Messiah-sama is decidedly darker but both follow similar story patterns.
